Retrofitting Bluetooth (pukka Land Rover type) to a 2005 HSE |
|
My 2005 HSE was pre the period when the PTI Bluetooth kit became standard (06 model year) - I now have an 09 model on the fleet and have to say that the phone kit is an excellent feature.
It got me to thinking - can the 05 car have the Land Rover Bluetooth system fitted?
I'm guessing the wiring is in there somewhere?...I know I would need to fit the steering wheel with the Green and Red telephone buttons (which isnt a hardship as a new steering wheel would be nice) - the stereo system has the "telephone button" fitted - when I press the button it says "no phone fitted"
So :
1) is it an easy job or dealer only?
2) is the microphone already there in the courtesy light housing - and simply not activated?
3) I'm assuming some sort of Bluetooth module will be needed whihc will be plugged into the harness somewhere?
4) I'm assuming the dealer will then need to activate the Bluetooth in the system somewhere?
5) Any idea on cost - I assume if everything else is there the only thing to buy is the module?
Thaks for any pointers!!

go to the parrot web site, you can specify the D3 on the applications list. Its really plug n play. The wiring is the same as the Jaguar

Thanks MacLeod, I'm sure it's very effective, but, no disrespect, it's a bit ugly stuck on there isnt it? I like the inconspicuous nature of the LR version!

I understand that proper PTI is factory fit only ...there is a close alternative though ...speak to Slimer 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I'm in the same situation as dealmaker here, with needing a new stearing wheel, no bluetooth and a button that says no phone fitted, so i'm another person interested to see if it is possible!

WOW - big job to fit a kit! Don't know i I'd trust my dealer (Stratstones!) to do that! (Don't know if they'd ever get it back together again - not without missing bits or numerous rattles anyway!)

Hi all
The story so far….., recently purchased a LR discovery 1995 HSE from salesman still under extended warranty, love it, joined site (only lurked as it is a big learning curve and haven’t much to add yet!) lost car to wife as she like driving it (anything for a quiet life), anyhow whilst purchasing the car enquired regarding phone connection, I was told it should work!! I have delved a bit deeper and now realise that the car doesn’t have it fitted (disappointed ), I was then thinking what are the options, reading this post it looks like the aftermarket or parrot systems. My main question is what is the difference between the two. I don’t really want to go back to the salesman as he doesn’t really know (well that’s apparent). I could possibly fit it my self as I am quite handy with a soldering iron and cable. If I fit the aftermarket system does that integrate with the rest of the systems on the car? Or would the parrot system be better? Where can I buy the systems from and how much do they cost? Thanks for any help; I am in the Channel Islands, so travelling a bit limited, main agent useless etc. I would be interested in what is involved in installing the systems i.e. does it need a software update?? sorry for all the questions.
Thanks again for any help; by the way this site is very interesting.
Best wishes to all

Aftermarket LR bluetooth kit is fully hidden away ..all you would see are the 2 buttons on the steering wheel (these are iluminated as well )
All the leads just plug in exsisting connectors , so no soldering or cutting anything .
You need to fit the steering wheel buttons ..very easy , a mic ( has a holder in the overhead lighting consul ) and 2 modules ...these are velcrowed to the inside of the consul surround .
Everything is operated from the 2 switches ..you can also store voice dials aswell . Phone mutes and says "phone "on the stereo when in use .No software update needed.
LR kit in the region of £350
Parrot or other bluetooth kit ..normal you can get adapter leades to connect into the stereo so it mutes when the phone rings .The main unit is normally on show somewere though .
Welcome to the site G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
