Had my D3 in today as the read PDC would start bleeping when accellerating, breaking, whatever, with or without objects in range.
Turned out one of the connectors had loosened a bit. They re-connected it correctly and the problem is gone!

regards,

Wiljo

So, I stripped the rear bumper off, which was a task in itself, (why do they use those philips head screws on the mud flaps? They rust and sieze and become impossible) and couldn't see anything immediately wrong with them or the wiring, so I thought I'd start taking them out to look a little closer.

Problem is, given that nothing looks wrong, and each one is a sealed unit, all I can do it replace them surely? I certainly have to replace one now, as it came apart in my hands as I pulled it out. Sad

Does anyone know roughly how much these senors are each? Dealer is closed for the day so I can't call til morning.

Despite cleaning, washing, drying sensors the rear parking assistance has finally given up the ghost for the past 2 weeks after months of intermittent problems. Off to the dealer next tuesday.

New sensors were £29 and a few pence each in case anyone is interested. So far I have gotten away with only replacing one, and they all seem to be working fine now, but they were always intermittent, so I am yet to see if the problem is resolved.

Thanks for all your advice as ever tho folks.

Rear bumper park sensor removal

Anyone out there who can confirm the procedure of removing one of the centre rear park sensors without taking the bumper off on a 57 plate Disco 3

I had a look at my rear inner sensors and I can´t see how it is possible to remove them without removing the bumper. I would be interested to know how this might be done though, without supernatural powers or extremely small, girly hands (which I have the opposite to...) Bow down Rolling with laughter

Rear middle park sensor removal (without bumper removal)

I have identified that one of my rear middle sensors is at fault, has anyone ever managed to remove and replace the middle sensors without the removal of the bumper cover and all the trim and rear light parts.

Cheers

Parking sensors D3

Hi, last week my 2006 D3 HSE gave me a long beep from the parking sensor speaker as soon as I turned on the ignition.
Both my Nanocom and my GAP tool gave the fault codes B1B57-11 and B1B58-11.
front and rear sensors general electrical failure power circuit short to ground.
So my first instinct was to disconnect the sensor multinplugs behind the RHF headlight and LHR light cluster.
I'd did then individually and ran the diagnostic tool fault code process after each disconnection.
The fault remained even when both multiplugs were disconnected.
So not being a boffin on ECUs, I ordered a replacement PDC ecu.
The fault persists with the replacement ECU fitted.
So either the replacement is also duff or there is a wiring fault on the loo. Somewhere.
My question is, us there a common point of failure in the car as it is not in either of the bumper looms.

A sensor, can cause the short.

In some cases it will take out the ecu.

Maybe put your old ecu back in.
disconnect both bumper looms. (may as well leave the front disconnected )
chock the wheels
take the park brake off
put it in reverse
ignition on

measure the voltage between the black and brown wires. Should be 5v or 12v.
If nothing, ecu probably broke. Try the replacement.
If you get voltage from one, don't rush.
Measure the bumper loom resistance between black and brown with it disconnected from the car.

If you are getting a short, disconnect each sensor until resistance rises significantly. That's the duff sensor. Replace.

Thanks for the reply Pete. I did as you suggested and disconnected both looms. When I tested the black and brown at the rear connector tor from the car it was supplying voltage. I use a 12v buzzer as I can't always see what I'm working on and it buzzed.
I plugged in all my rear sensors as I was 100% satisfied with the integrity of the rear loom. They all chirp. I plugged in the front loom and the rears all stopped chirping.
So the fault is at the front. I'll do a CCF edit tomorrow and delete them till I can be bothered to pull the front bumper off.
Thanks agsin

Thumbs Up You will need to unplug the front loom too.

If it's either of the front outside sensors, you can get to them through the fog light openings (if you take the fog lights out)

It might not be easier / quicker... But it is possible

I tried to access the front sensors through the fig light aperture. Not hope. There is no way I could get my thumbnail or a tool in to depress the tang to release the loom. Plus the connectors face towards the bumper making it impossible.
As for trying to lift two tangs to release the sensor from the bezel 🥵hahaha. No chance.
So I took the complete bumper off and even then its a struggle to free them. I had to wedge the tangs open with slivers of plastic and push them rearward with a wooden dowel.
Anyhoo, after testing the loom for short circuits and continuity I eventually found the faulty sensor.
All done.

You know you can see the rear sensors using the Gap iid tool. if you get a continuous tone, when you select reverse with nothing behind you, one of the sensors thinks something is in front of it and it will show 0 mm/cm.
they are call outer left, inner left, outer right and inner right.
That will be the broken one go on the 3bay you can get 4 for 30ish pounds i haven't got front ones but i expect you can see the same.
Also lolly stick will help hold the 3 prongs up so you can push out the sensors out.
