Is it good practice to always lower to Access Height when parked? Who bothers and who doesn't? Would it shorten the life of the compressor if done regularly? Just wondering.
Cheers,

Always leave it on ''normal'' unless I am loading or unloading. LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

I always drop ours to Access when coming up the drive. Makes it easier for the dogs to get in/out
Will this cause me problems in the long run?
I did notice last weekend it looked even lower than Access when parked for a whole weekend - is this possible? D4 HSE - Aintree Green
D4 Orkney my13 - gone
Stornaway D4. Gone, Didn't like it at all
D3 silver manual. Loved my first LR

It's called "access height" for a reason .....and if you have short legs like me it's a must I've used it when parking with all my discos without compressor issues 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I love access height. I find when I forget I seem to put a lot of weight on the side of the seat getting in and out. So for the simple thing of looking after the lovely interior it a big to access height Narpy Grill, tinted windows, Smooth leather wheel (TLO Group buy), ACM fitted (thanks TLO), Rear door loom and Row 2 & 3 audio switch upgrade, RRS 20" wheel change, 285 Cooper LTZ's Sat Nav Mod (until I get a Faultmate upgrade), Front & Rear lamp guards. 4x4 screen now switched on - Woody32, Follow me home reverse lights - woody32, Auto release EPB - Woody32. Off Road Navigation - Woody32. Remap + EGR's switched off. Full chassis clean and Waxoyl.

I always place mine in access height when parking at home to make getting in and out easier however, when I am parking amongst other motorists, I aways raise to full height to protect my doors from inconsiderate halfwits, Those side steps are worth the money

For any passengers that comment on the size of the Disco I put it in off road height when they get out. otherwise I leave it in access mode at night and lower it for mostly for access. Compressor has lasted 7 years. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Access and dilemma of side steps, stand on or leap over |
|
We always use access height to get out, my wife and I are barely average height. Without it, I feel as though I am throwing myself out. I still have yet to decide the best way out. With LR side steps I am undecided whether to perch on them first, facing forward or back another dilemma,or clear them in one leap. Suffice it to say, no problem with our other normal 4x4's including an ML.
How do others accomplish this? Brian - East Sussex

On the Land Rover experience day last week the instructor told me to alway try to raise/lower the suspension whilst moving, rather than when stationary. Nothing to do with compressor life but less wear and tear on suspension components apparently?

I always use access height as I was told it lets the ECU sleep because in normal height even with the car asleep the ECU is still trying to keep it level for a while!
And yes adjust height whilst moving, this allows the wheels to roll out the strain making less strain on bushes etc!

Another for access height to allow the kids easy access and to save the side of the seats. I do sometimes put it in off road height when parked in a tight car park. It allows the numpty next to me to bash the hell out of his door on my side step should he feel inclined to Mods:
DNA Remap
De-Tangoed
Clear indicators
D4 rear lights
Sat Nav with D4 surround
Flip down DVD player
Blackvue
Side steps
3rd row headphone/switches
Debadge
EGR's blanked

After doing research on this subject, whilst the compressor will be running more when suspension is lowered and raised (it is designed to do this) the airbags will last longer, it appears that airbags that are not lowered fail much sooner than airbags that are lowered, an example of this is with Wellington boots, if they are stored folded in the same position over summer when it's time to get them out for winter in many cases they have cracked and leak on the fold, if the suspension is lowered at night it can double the life of the airbags Just like a pair of wellingtons will last twice as long without cracking if used rather than stored bent. This research includes HGV and buses that have much heavier systems than in LR's and the compressors are robust enough to cope with minor leaks.
Another point is storage of the car, many owners don't use their cars for a period of time, this means the compressor is not run, if this period is months the exhaust valve on the compressor which is made out of rubber/neoprene can can stick, when the compressor starts the rubber is damaged causing the compressor to fail, this rubber is a service item available from LR for less than a fiver, but an essential spare for anyone storing a LR for a long period. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

The main man at LR Experience at Eastnor said ALWAYS leave the car parked at lowest setting, i.e access height.
