Right Key for Towbar

When I bought my towbar (used) it only came with one key (black style, not orange). I'd like to know what make/model key blank to use to make a dupe. I took my one key to a locksmith that I've used before. He couldn't find a matching blank in his inventory. He can order the right blank and cut it if he knows what # to order. He has a sourcebook with some 10,000+ blanks in it, but as he put it :"I don't have the time to look through 10,000 blank profiles to order one blank"

So, anybody have any ideas of a suitable part # ? I can't stand having just one key of anything!!!

James

One of my keys has number 1D27 on it.

I took my solitary key to the local key copier/shoe repairer/engraver place and they took a photo to send to the supplier. Cost £7 for two keys. However by comparison Land Rover charge only £12 for a new lock with two keys.

Do Land Rover sell just the spare key or do you have to buy the complete lock replacement? I lost one of my keys and do need to get a spare.

It's the whole kit and caboodle or nothing.

Thanks Navigator, looks like I'll be having a spare lock set kicking around Mr. Green

The latest locks come with a redesigned key with a round plastic bit at the top which should make them harder to snap off. I'm sure it's still possible if you try hard enough though Wink

Unfortunately my stealer acted as if I was asking for rollerized muffler bearings and a 50-foot spool of flight line.
"Nope, I don't think Rover sells those. Contact Thule, as I think they make it"

I guess it's for days like these that I bought the plasma cutter and the TIG welder.

I'd love to replace it with a skeleton key like my Grandma used to have on her house....

If you PM Nick who is called "The Large One" on here, he will be able to give you the part number for the lock set so you can go back to the dealer and nail his cheeky ears to the counter.
