Hmmm.... someone sent me a picture of you discotres

I'm beginning to take the view that the gross negativity to a new vehicle owner such as you have shown in this thread is contrary to the fundamental purpose of this site.

I think that is unfair, I thought everything was factual backed up by threads on the site, I was trying to be practical, he can take what he wants from it, if one bit helps it has been worth it for him, plus he was sensible enough to forsee a problem, hence the title of his thread (who would ever dream of that title if they were not already concerned) and his own personal concerns from what he has read and heard, not just from me Wink

Well stick , what ya gunna do

I think Sarumlight got it right! But I have had good help from others - including le mouton noir (dt)!

I have consequently downloaded names and numbers of LR dealers in Fr and CHF. I will ensure more in-car comforts than normal. I will collect the car, and immediately take the tyres off and put Wintrac on - AJS for me- and chains in the boot. I will then sellotape a permagrin to the front of the windscreen and put my trust in LRA and my faith in the components. If it breaks down, all of this is the least of my worries. I will be torn limb from limb by the little lady. But..we will set out - quality will out!

Just go for it and enjoy the trip.
I have owned discos since the original three door, have had at least one of every version two x disco 3 and now done nearly 8000 miles in a d4. In all those miles I have only had one breakdown and that was years ago when the heater matrix split, even then we were back on the road within a couple of hours with the help of the dealer in Edinburgh.
I know people do have problems but I can honestly say that if I had to do a risk assessment the first action required for me would be TAKE THE DISCO 4 and I make a living doing risk assessments!

Well I can change the hair colour slightly ...but regardless of what has occurred to your D3, your posts to a new owner, looking for balanced and genuine reassurances, are quite appalling Thumbs Up

DG, I couldn't give him reassurance because of what has happened to me, and the dissapointment, inconvenience, anger and trauma my family and I have suffered has all been the fault of Land Rover, nobody else. Are you saying we should hide any problems on this site or in fact lie to other forum members that all is rosey? What if it all went wrong and he came back and said why did you not tell me? At least now he can make the judgement call. I am sure he is sensible enough to make his own judgement, in fact the whole thread was balanced by some with full confidence, I am sorry that you felt I should not have told him the truth and expressed my concerns about his young family, something I had been through myself!

I think you would have far greater credibility in this case A/ if you owned a D4. B/ if you owned a D4. C/ if you owned a D4. Rolling Eyes

Now why don't you take some of the advice offered by a growing number of site users .......and wrap up FFS Thumbs Up

When you say you are retired, your pre-retirement employment wouldn't have been a drama queen would it?

For God's sake, your car broke down (not good, I agree)....but no one died. Please, spare us.

(P.S. I own a D4)

Good call Stick, and on your way please do take a slight detour past mine whereupon I will lend you a shotgun. This is to be used on your way past DT to put him out of his obvious misery.

FWIW, I have a 05 plate which I have been running for over a year without any major incident, certainly nothing which has prevented me from continuing my journey and in that time I've done 23000 miles. Nuff said. Enjoy your trip.

Defintely worth it, I had a problem in Germany which meant having the car being recovered to the UK and they wouldn't do it without the log book. That was before the open trade in the EU, so now I guess it would be easier. Switzerland isn't in the EU, so it would be harder to do without the correct papers.

It wouldn't bother me taking a brand new D4 though, especially as you have a day or so to test it. I wouldn't be able to leave it behind

I can understand the concerns of the OP but if you don't trust it from new when do you trust it

If Land Rover made a million D4's and only one broke down thats the one you would hear about not the 999,999 that didn't have a problem

So I would say go for it, use it and enjoy it
