Take your new D4 to switzerland and enjoy it, if you have any issues whatsoever
you can always get a hotel close by plus theres a brilliant LR dealer network.
i wonder if Discotres always carries another D4 round, just in case his brakes down ??

As a new D4 owner (1800 miles so far) I wouldn't have a problem driving it across Europe. Having said that, I WAS worried before i got it, having read the negative comments on this site. Though, as someone said, you don't hear about the Discos that are fine. As a matter of interest, does anyone ACTUALLY know what percentage of D4s have serious problems? I bet it's not as high as it first appears. Knowing the figure would put the whole debate into perspective.
PS: I do feel [i]slightly[/i] sorry for Discotres - he only has to post on a thread before people are down his throat. Maybe just a bit unfair - everyone is entitled to their point of view, even if its in a (tiny) minority.

What is the diffrence between new or old, all can go wrong and develope faults. So if you wait for a while and have no issues, it would not mean that your journey would definatley be trouble free.
Go for it, that is why you spent the money on, alternativley I am sure there are lots on here who would drive your nice new D4 for several thousand miles just to make sure there are no issues.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Been thinking about what the mutts say, will have a word with them! D3s have been spot on during this winter, one in for gear linkage and EGR at the mo but still happy. Let's see what the bits say!

Bloody 'ell nothing like trying to get a point across, over and over and over and over....
no wonder folks get the wrong impression of D3's when there is so much passion put into getting apoint across.
Does anyone remember when D3's first came out and that muppet with the discovery 3 online campaign website who eventually bought a Q7 without test driving it, for it to constantly breakdown
I sometime wonder if the new prolifit poster of non-sensical guff is actually that chap in disguise hiding out in plain sight.
Back with the OP....yes drive it for what you bought it for. It will be stellar on a journey like that

NO, I would not risk it in a D4 ... but my new RRS arrives next week, and a couple of days later I'll be off with the family to Les Contamines ...

I don't think it matters what make of new vehicle you decide to take on your hol's with your family, but one thing for sure is have a 5***** insurance to get your family safely to where you are heading, or delivered home in comfort.
