| on road tyres with good off road capabilities |

Morning all
my existing Continentals are coming to their end of life cycle (balding  ) and I need to get some new boots for the disco.
Can you please advise what might be best?
I'm looking for road-mainly tyre that has decent ability off road and ones that wont effect my mpg too much.
I've seen the Coopers on CT's machine - and they are a beautiful set of rubber - but think they are a bit OTT for what I need.
Hope you can help.

I off-roaded on standard road tyres for over 8 months. They are more capable than you think 
I holed 2 in a flint covered lane though and thats when I decided I needed something a little stronger....but then again I've seen MT\R's holed from flint too
You could try AT2's ..nice and quiet but with good off-road performance...but they are only available on 18's. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

ISTR Both available in 17", slightly oversize (width) though
Someone wiser than me will know the sizes available & whether they rub.
If they fit, I'd go for BFG's Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!

Ive got Mickey Thomsom 245/70-17 ATZ.
They have been to Cape York with no punctures but they have some chipping.
I wouldnt hesitate to put them on again.
Very good off road and on road.
BFG ATs used to be my biggest seller but they
dont seem to be doing the mileage they used to.

most of us this side , with the exception of Chris & Will have used Wrangler's , stood up to every task with only one exception which was hard , slippery , rutted clay where only the Coopers made it through.Theyre a very soft compound though IMO , have also used Conti's & Michelin Synchrones.Of all three I favoured the Synchrones.
Currently running on 19" Scorpions or 20 " Gen Grabber UHP's.Chris's Grabber AT 2's looked to be a great performer aswell.

Just a suggestion S
Most of us have taken the option of investing in a set of offroad rims with offroad rubbers.A set of 17 " rims can be got for 100 to 200 GBP , with/without rubbers.I'm currently looking into alternative offroad tyres other than the usual Coopers , Generals , Goodyear MTR's etc.
All of the outings I've been on so far I have used my stock 17's and some VERY worn Goodyear HP's.So if you're thinking about the Ballyhouras trip you shouldn't have any worries with what you have at the moment.

prices off the local tyre strealers today
Its possible to buy mail order for cheaper out of the UK but whos going to fit them

S , try camskill.co.uk , even though they don't list them they will quote you.Emails usually answered within 15 mins.My local man will fit 4 or 5 for about 20 yo yos , balanced.The shipping is around 6 or 7 pounds for 4 as long as they class them as car tyres , sometimes get away ( miss it) with it as Barry will testify.

If the compound is anyway the same as the 20 " Gen Grabber UHP's then youll have plenty of travels in them.Never used these particular 17's so you takes your chances
Load rating 113 is way more than you need and speed rating H is spot on .
