Excellent write up Robbie. Couldnt have come at a better time!! Thumbs Up Bow down

I'm still having trouble with my battery voltage dropping overnight to 11v or just below. By great to see if there is a drain or if its just a duff battery or alternator.

Now just need to get a clamp Meter Thumbs Up

Robbie where did you get your low current clamp meter, I remember in a previous post you got it at a good price.

Thanks.

Cannot recall where I got the DiLog from but I've used ISS a few times so probably from them. I think it was just under £80 inc del and at the time that was a very good price. The first one delivered didn't work too well so had to do an exchange.

My Hantek was gifted to me from someone who got it as part of a larger kit and whilst my red Tecpel was good value others have subsequently found them for less than I paid.

Compared to the price of big brand low amp clamps the DiLog was a steal and apart from the first duff one (the value changed depending on your grip!) I have been very happy with it. It's accuracy so far matches the rather excellent amp clamp that I used to borrow.

A mate has one if these, it is an order of magnitude better than my DiLog (well, so he tells me):

I have tool envy, but it is out of my league and not needed in my view.

To be honest for the things I will use it for a accuracy of +\- 50% would even be fine.

£50 on eBay? Are you sure it is the right one as it seems too good to be true.

No, pretty sure it is wrong one Laughing

I only had a quick look and went back to check spec in detail and it was AC only. Hadn't ordered yet as I wanted to check on manufacturers website Embarassed

£89.04 inc delivery on thier website http://www.lamppostelectrical.co.uk/produc...1934685960

There is a glitch in the checkout where it charges VAT on delivery before it actually tells you the delivery charge Laughing

Free delivery on orders over £75 ex VAT, so if you bought 2 they come in at £81.54 each

I rang and asked for a group buy and was very nicely told 'no' (he was very nice about it though!)......if you go in store they would charge you more Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Having searched around ISS still looks like the cheapest place for the DL6506.

I've mentioned in the past and on this thread about the importance of a clean battery and that the crud on the top of a battery can become conductive and cause a battery drain. This week I did a battery and alternator check on an RRS and found a ridiculous voltage drop across the grime on top of the battery.

I didn't get chance to take a picture as it was dark but the aggregating factor was the lack of a battery cover. The owner was not aware of the safety role provided by the cover or the role it has helping to keep the battery clean. His assumption was that is was cosmetic and the usual poor fit of the thing prompted him to bin it.

The infamous ETCG has just posted a video on battery checking and, whilst I cringed at some of the things he said and did, he covered the issue of battery cleanliness. If you ignore the safety howlers and some of the other comments, the video does show the battery crud issue quite well:
