Did you get your leak sorted?
I'm just about to order a set of the gaskets from Advanced Factors if you'd like me to get an extra set for you.

No, haven't had a chance to sort it yet.
Thanks for the offer but I've got a spare gasket left over from last time...

New gasket?

Do you have to use a new gasket every time you open it?

Depending on the quality of the gasket. BUT opening is only needed for a decoke (or repair) and that is only needed if the motor does run shorter than 20 minutes in cold weather regularly...

We had a company selling, mounting FB heaters for 15 years.... the thermotop for universal use do have a temperature sensor option on pin 2 who can be Attached to a temp feeler So it knows if it is warmer or colder than 6 or 7 degrees celcius.... this one is used if the TT is used for auxiliary heating, like on the D3 and D4 diesel...

We always did place a switch in that line (On/of) so users can switch off the temp feeler if they do short drives (buying cigarettes drives) and therefore the FBH does not start on those short drives AND does not get polluted with half burn diesel fuel...

I think,( but did not tested it yet on my D3) that on the LR D3 pin 2 is also used for this function if i read the wiring plan...

If that works and you Mount it and use it, you have never to open your webasto again normally.. Wink
 Best regards
Harold

Thanks, but my heater works perfectly after cleaning.
If you see my other post above; I have a coolant leak from the join after putting it back together with a new gasket set, hence asking if a new one would be needed every time.... ie when I take it apart to investigate the leak.

Answer stays the same... depending on the quality of the gasket..
Since you have a leak, something went wrong, if you destroyed the gasket, you do, if not damaged, you can re use it, since it is rather fresh....

My switch story is meant for those who want to keep running it clean and hot, without the need to dismantle it on a regular basis...

I hear you, just wanted to see if they're specifically a one-use item.
I'm hoping it's just the one of the two o-rings that hasn't seated properly or something. What else could it be?!

Great idea re the switch on pin 2.

No, a switch on Pin 2 will not help or do anything to trigger the FBH.

Are you sure?

I am talking about : switch OFF the temp feeler, just prevent starting... not starting it..

Where does pin 2 go then?

I can imagine that the outside temp is triggered over the CAN system, but since pin 2 IS attached...
Could also mean the FBH has its own feeler and there for can be switched off

As far as i know only the W-bus language is slightly different, but the PIN layout is standard Webasto
I had one (a TTV FBH from a D3 that is) in my Former LR D2, wired like a dead standard TTV, only the remote didn’t function (but that is common knowledge here)
 Best regards

How often would you guys recommend a FBH service is carried out please? I'd like to give mine a good clean out as it is now 10 years old and probably has never been cleaned.

Should it be done every couple of years as preventative maintenance?

Pin 2 is the WBUS connection. It was only ever wired up on the very very early D3s, those which had the Settings menu timer - which was mentioned in the 2nd ever post on here, posted by Gareth 8)

It is present again on the D4 where a Telestart is an option.
