Roof bars needed.

Does anybody know where I can get roof bars cheaper than the LR ones?

Nick at Yeovil LR will sell you the LR ones at list less 20%. Otherwise, the view is that the LR ones are re-branded Thule ones - a forum search should reveal the exact items that you need. If you're not in a hurry, LR ones on ebay could be your cheapest option.

I've looked on eBay and Thule. eBay are about £130 inc delivery - I was hoping for something cheaper. If that's a good price, then so be it. I'll take them.

The Thule ones (according to their website) don't look right. They look like the ones that fit on a raised rail rather then the LR type.

I've got Thule aero bars and they are fine. Easy to fit (assuming you have LR rool rails fitted) and fairly quiet.

You need three components:

Footpack 751

Adapter Kit 3027

Bars 761 (square) or 861 (aero).

Bought mine from http://www.roofbox.co.uk/

None of the Thule roof bars I've seen look anything like the LR bars. It could be that Thule make the LR bars but only supply them to LR and do not retail them.

I took your advice and called Yeovil. They're sending them with next-day delivery.

I also treated myself to one of these.

Not sure about their claim 'about twice as much as a large roof box'.

That's about 382 litres and there are plenty of roof boxes bigger than that.

What was the attraction?

I don't particularly like roof boxes and I don't have a great deal of storage for when it's not in use.
