Which bit of the wonderfully detailed fitting instructions can't you figure out?
The bit about the captive nuts? Just jam a screw driver into the round black covers and hank 'em out.2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

Oh yes, worked that one out, it did not bear any resemblance to the fffing instructions that tell you to just pull back on the front trim! Lucky I didn't or it would have been bent to hell, but my problem was that all, except one of the black covers for the captive nuts were in so tight, the covers came off but the core stayed in the welded on nuts, I used a drill to carefully try and get the rest of the plastic out, thought I had done it, worked my way around to tighten them, one screw head sheered off (some faith I have in them!) and some will not go down far enough, probably plastic still in the bottom of the welded on nut. What utter idiot invents these things, just totally peed me off as I now have a broken screw half out of a nut and rattling roof bars that I can't tighten and a snow blizzard has just started. I am being sent replacement plastic covers for the remaining two front nuts and a couple of new screws. I wanted the roof rack for half term next week, but that looks totally and ffing f*cked up now. I am not really that happy at the moment

Something that Nick and I learnt today is that you can order individual roof rails (passenger side/driver side) and also a new fixing kit for £4.70 ! Might help you or not.
Discotres,
have you got a pic of the new silver rails ?....I am feeling a purchase coming on

I will take some pics in the morning for you, subject to depth of snow
There is no issue with the rails, they are stunning, it is the LR plastic gromits that are stuck in the nut holes that is the problem, plus of course one dodgy screw

OK here are some pictures, the first two show the cap that you see on the existing rail, this has to be prised up and pulled out, you will see in the first picture I started to lift it, but when pulled all but one broke leaving the core in the nut. The second picture shows the one that came out OK and gives you an idea of the amount of solid plastic left jammed in the nut where you have to screw in your new rails, if ANY plastic is left in the rails will not screw down fully. I used a small drill to break up the plastic and then tried to hovver the bits out, but what a lot of farting about for the sake of a gromit that is badly designed. I use a v shaped tack/nail remover to slide under and lift them, but they were so tight they all snapped except one!
Pictures of rails on car, but not yet properly secured for loads
I hope my experience helps somebody else

I have these silver ones on mine and they look good but I wish the end caps were silver as well rather than the black standard black.
Looks like a rough neighbourhood you live in there
