Prospeed rack looks great but £732.50 + vat! Shocked

Like with most things in life, you get what you pay for and with the Prospeed rack you will be getting an almost silent rack that has no impact on MPG. It also has a range of accessories design specifically for it including the up and coming roof baggage. It's a complete system really that is very secure and really well made.

The patriot rack is £1150 and then powdercoating is another £200.

Prospeed looks like a bargain to me! Much better looking too IMO!

I looked at powder coating but then thought that if it chips it's then Censored . My next option was annodizing. Didn't look to deep into that and ended up leaving it plain. It soon dulled down to the state it's in now

Not wanting to bang on about it but the Prospeed rack has a zinc galvanised type powder coat that acts as an undercoat primer that does a certain amount of "self healing". They are pretty tough and take minutes to put on and off the D3.

At the end of the day when you are investing best part of 1K in a rack then you have to weigh up the pro's and con's of want you want from a rack and what the rack can give you.
At the end of the day no-one is going to spend that sort of money and then say they made the wrong choice. They will defend their choice blindly. That's human nature. I am happy with my purchase and would buy another in a heartbeat if needed. In fact when I get my 110 in the near future I'll be putting a Patriot on top of that as well.

Why a roof rack to mount a roof tent?

Two preferably three roof bars will carry a roof tent. A wide choice out there in the Market place. Could save you several hundreds of £s and quite a few kilos as well.

Agreed. Before I added the Hannibal rack to the Defender, I had the Maggiolina up there on four roof bars. Then, when the rack was added, the tent would have simply rendered the rack useless so it was put on top of the expo trailer freeing it up for bikes, oztent carrying.

The issue with the roof tent route you'll have is that you have the Roof rack fitted we were discussing on my thread. Wouldn't really work. By the looks of it, a Maggiolina wouldnt fit in there, a Howling moon etc wouldn't open fully properly due to the raised sides.

Your roof rack does look good but imo it'll be one or the other.
