With the 20% discount I can buy the 450lt L/R roofbox for £225.60, which seems a very reasonable price. Now I've never looked at a L/R box, but I'm guessing that they are probably made by Thule. I can pop down to Yeovil to collect it, as it's not that far away.
Alternatively, I can buy from my local Halfrauds their 470lt Exodus box, which looks fine. I'm only likely to use it a couple of times a year so I don't really need the very best.
The U bolts on the Halfrauds boxes will fit onto a approx. 8cm wide rail.
What I prefer about the Half. box is that it is longer & not as wide as the 450lt L/R box & as such is better for fishing rods.
Will the 8cm U bolt fit on the L/R roof rails that I have?
I'd welcome your opinions etc.

Halfrauds have special deals at the moment & L/R with discount are also cheap. Hard to beat them on price for the c.450lt sizes.
Does anyone know if the 80mm U-bolts fit the L/R bars?
Roofbox.co stocks Kamei boxes at great prices, but I don't really want/need to spend that much.
P.S Taking 2 piece "Pike" rods to Loch Ore soon!

Just spoken to Nick @ Yeovil (top man). The L/R bars are 80mm so the Halfrauds box should fit.
The L/R 450lt box is nearly square shaped, so no good for rods. Rods will actually fit into boot anyway, but I'd like to be able to put them & ski's into the roof box. The Halfrauds 470lt box will take both.

I have a Halfords roofbox, and the bolts are very snug fitting on the roof bars but they do fit securely. You just have to make sure everything is properly lined up or it can be a real pain, but i can get the box on or off in a couple of minutes.

If you can wait a month they'll be a lot cheaper too -after the summer holidays they lose their value (like caravans and convertible cars) as they need storing until next used for 2007 holidays. Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue
Had it since new - sold Jun 17 after 12 years and 214,000 miles

Ebay is a good idea, but in a bit of a hurry now & postage etc.a bit of a hassle with a box. I'll have another look though.
Pelyma, I use a 9/10# fly rod for Pike on Chew, but the rods for Loch Ore are for dead baits & plugs, 2 piece only & I only use them very occasionally so not going to change them.

You can buy a new Thule with delivery for £212 for the 450Lt Ocean box from here:
This box can carry upto 6 pairs of ski's.
http://www.thule-car-roof-boxes.co.uk/thul...an-700.htm
Better than either of the other two with next day delivery as long as you order before 12am and an easy fix system.

Thanks Paul, much the same as this http://www.roofbox.co.uk/store.html but looking at the Thule boxes in Halfrauds today, I actually thought the own brand Exodus range was as good. Probably made by Thule anyway!
I like the 470lt box for £199 or a bit more for "carbon" finish.
I checked that the Halfrauds sticker was removable
