So the D3 is longer, can get a bit more in the boot, and the higher spec models can have 7 seats.
D3 roof is higher. (may make a difference to car parks or garages?)
The RRS boot isn't very big with the rear seats up.
And if you are a tall guy, you can't have the front seats all the way back with the rear seats flat.
D3 diesel can have a better sound system (logic7) than equivalent diesel RRS.
RRS is nicer up front. Nice materials and can make you feel special to drive lol.
RRS has speed sensitive steering. better brakes

2023 to date: FL2 as a second car

RRS if you want a 5 seat SUV that can do the towing and off road if required.
D3 if you want a load carrying SUV that can take 7, do the towing and off road if required.
The differences that matter are the load bay size and the number of seats. After that, they are pretty similar in 55 plate.
Go a little younger( 2007) and you can add the excellent TDV8 to the 4.2SC V8, 4.4V8 and 2.7TDV6 in the RRS. V8 D3s are rare so you're realistically limited to the tardy TDV6. So if engine choice/performance is an issue, look at the RRS. The decent engines in the RRS get higher kit levels as standard too - fridge cubby etc.
Get an RRS with the active anti roll bars - called dynamic response - and you get excellent handling for something that weighs more than 2.5 tonnes. The bars act as if they are disconnected at low speed giving good ride and off road articulation, but stiffen as speed rises to give better control than the passive bars in the D3. They are pricey to replace, however.
Ultimately, it comes down to what you're going to use it for. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

How many lives shattered. How much blood will spill, until everybody does what they were always going to have to do from the very beginning: SIT DOWN AND TALK!"

interesting advice - as I'm wondering about where to go after my D3 TDV6.
I was thinking about an RRS 4.4 v8. Why? Because the 4.2 sc cars appear all to have dyanmic response and either the rollbars themselves, or the fluid pump system appear to be prone to leaks that are costly to repair.
If I'm right, the 4.4 cars don't have dynamic response as standard - so it's one less thing to break.
Then, trying to find a car without sidesteps - so as to have the best chance of having good sills to scrub down prepare as good for a few more years.
I'd love a 4.2 sc car - but only if it didn't have dynamic response or side steps - I'm presuming they don't exist ?!

Remove the arc system and fit fixed if it breaks ?
Yeah I think the sc all had them.

Can you retrofit standard bars - say from an RRS 4.4v8 car?
Are you not then left with a permanent error message on the dashboard - does anyone have a link to this being done by owners who didn't want to bother with fixing the system?
That would remove one barrier to an SC car for me.

I expect the rear body requires removal to replace it. .
Be interesting to know if it’s been done
