Running with bunged up intercooler
Just changed mine as it's been subjected to few years of mud without cleaning it, not too bad at the front:

but the back is solid mud!!

Car must have effectively been running for years without an intercooler. Car does feel like it has a lot more get up & go so changing it has improved performance. Will be interested to see what happens to mpg!
looking forward to getting back to Lux tonight...will be picking up my IC that got delivered to NJF yesterday
We'll be performing a double transplant...NJF will go first and I will follow his every (correct) move... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Including his "Oh s t, have to start again!"?? Doesn't strike me that Noel is that mechanically gifted, more of a GALMI type!

Did you replace it with an Allisport off road version?, all your cleaning and performance issues will be a thing of the past if you did "you cannot teach stupid people to do clever things"

SB, agreed, going like a rocketship!! Doing some overtaking on the A95 south of Elgin and it was effortless, even giving WVM on my butt a fighting chance. restored!
DC fraid standard LR one, didn't think about an Allisport one!

I found the cost of the Allisport to be a bit more than my budget - a genuine LR one only cost me £90 so it was a no brainer at the time.I see no ships........

Looking at the condition of mine sooner rather than later would be best. From now on mine is going to get a good hose down afterwards and rig up a jkp style bent lance thingy.
My bent lancy type thing is roughly a 20" 15mm bit of copper into a 90' bend and then a 15 to 8mm reducer to increase velocity. Stick a hose on the end and good to go.
I did mine after coming back from Buildwas the other week.Mark.

I take it you would recommend spending the cash on an alisport inter-cooler then? have you noticed any improvement in economy? is the performance boost worth the cost?
cheers

err ... no, we wont. Your intercooler has arrived and is waiting for you in my garage. As for my intercooler:
Preamble: MrH arrives at NJF's place before NJF gets in from work. MrH drops off package in the garage before settling down for a cuppa, provided by NJF SWMBO. Digger arrives and settles down for a cuppa. NJF arrives and pays for intercooler with hard cash. SWMBO orders curries all round, which NJF, MrH and Digger collect in MrH's car (NJF pays with hard cash). Curry is eaten. Beer is drunk. It's time for MrH to carry on toward the Fatherland. As they head to the door:
NJF to MrH (having fed him curry and beer): "so why is there only one intercooler downstairs"?
MrH: "you've already got the other one from TFC when you saw him at the end of October, haven't you"?
NJF: "err, no".
MrH: "err, oh bloody hell".
So, John, it looks like we will be practicing on your car, at the end of which my mechanical skills will have improved to Derek's satisfaction and I will have had a chance to see if you know what you're doing. One consolation is that I have a heated, tiled double garage under the house.
