......what are the views on whether its worth removing, neutralising, under sealing the steel currently a bit rusty steel bits under a D3......especially the prone brakes pipes.......its seems incredible the LR can fit brake pipes that RUST when Volvo have been fitting CU-NI-FER rustless pipes fro over 30 years.
Question~ are new D4's better protected ? BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

that the buzz isnt on keeping a D3 good...but other things that dont preserve the vehicle or its resale value
....strange BREXIT - done properly.

The chassis's last ages - typically 20 years + if defenders are anything to go on, some are 30+ and have had no work done on the chassis, but seeing as the D3 has only been going for just under 6 years we will have to wait a bit longer
The body panels are either alluminium or galvanised steel - so shouldn't be any real issues there for a good few years
LR have to put something on that will corode, otherwise no one would buy another Discovery - guess they thought it could be the brake pipes - afterall the're not really that important are they Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k
previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !

being brought in for their second MOT have had to have brakes pipes renewed...this isnt a maybe thing in an MOT test if they are corroded it fails
not an easy task as these are routed in an inaccessible place....to change completely have to take off body & the easier fix of flaring & joining half way is the fix of choice....
....reason I say this is this week have had to have air con pipe to rear replaced
& aslo this year suffered the corroded auto shifter bush problem... BREXIT - done properly.

Get the whole underside waxoyled? including the brake pipes.
I guess, like me, an awful lot of people who own a D3 will not expect to keep it beyond the end of warranty/lease, therefore are not interested in spending money on rust proofing because its unlikely to be 'their' problem.
Now the demographic of ownership is changing to those that have purchased a less expensive second hand car, then the rust proofing issue will become more prevalent.
Other than replacing all the brake pipes, I don't think there is another choice to preserve them other than waxoyl.

Are new D4's better protected - it appears not - though in fairness my D3 was 5 when we parted company and apart from some surface rust on the chassis and fuel tank cover / support it was OK - never replaced a brake pipe through 3 MOT's. Never offroaded but did use to wash underneath regularly
