I know that this has been covered previously but have not searched back on the forum.
I am now looking at having a Safari Snorkel fitted.
The basic price of the LR dealer supplied snorkel (without fitting) is dearer than a fully fitted Safari Product. The LR mob also quoted at least 2.5 to 3 hours at $120.00 per hour for fitting.
Has anyone had any problems with their Safari Snorkels??

Gees... $120 per hour. I'm a pro photographer and I don't get that! Sounds like what a dentist would charge per hour. Perhaps get your local dentist to fit it. Seriously though, it does sound a little on the dear side to fit it.
Shop around.

I've got the Safari gadget and so far no dramas. I've now done over 27000km since it was fitted. No complaints from the dealer at service time either (2 services now) D3 (06) SE TDV6, Rear Locker, Rear Air, ARB bar w/winch, Safari Snorkel, 110l aux fuel tank, Kaymar rear bar (twin wheel carrier), Black Widow rear storage system, Rhino rack, GME UHF, Codan HF, IPF HID lights, CSA Explorer 17" w/BFG Mud Terrain KM2 - see Australian 4WD Monthly #103

Bob,
I have a Safari Snorkel which a mate and I installed to my car. All up it took a good 5 hours with 4 of those devoted to drilling the five 5mm holes in the A pillar to fit the bracket that supports the snorkel. The steel is hard, very hard, something like boron steel; it took three bits per hole that’s 15 drill bits.
I was later told that if I hit it with a centre punch every few minutes it would have gone strait through, I don’t know if it would, I do know its hard, hard steel.
Re LR versus Safari, get the Safari, its waterproof as the whole air ducting to the air filter is replaced, and you don’t have that perforated bend, LR has close to the filter box..
I have noticed a small increase in wind noise, though wether its worse or better than the LR one I cant say.

FYI
The LR Snorkel will take no more than 1.5 hours. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Dunno really, I had it fitted about 2 days after I took delivery of the vehicle. I imagine there is an increase, but it is certainly not intrusive. Driling holes in LR steel.
This is high tensile steel that work hardens when drilling if the drill gets hot!
You have to treet it like you would stainless steel.
Keep the drill speed low and biteing in all the time and keep the drill cool as possible
with water or cutting solution sprayed on as you drill.
I had to use this method to drill the 12 piolet holes and then drill them out to full size for
my new tow bar, no drills were damaged, it is a bit slow but works well.
Also it is best done with a new or at least a sharp drill.

Is that your D3 in the latest 4WD Monthly? 06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.
