Aren't you the guy who spent all last year using all our time trying to talk up the D5? And then you are so happy with it, you dumped it for a Velar?

Most of us, were smart enough to let the market evaluate the D5 first and the feedback is in, its a Turkey.

The D5 needs some balls, it's just a sissy wagon for inner city Climate change believers.

I can't find any articles about how the D5 is smashing sales records?

Yes traded it in for a Velar because I spend 90% of the time in it on my own. And if you read my thread you’ll see I had issues with car which I shared on here. I don’t need a car with balls to be a man Wink

But it seems you can’t take light hearted banter.

J77, you are the one who "can't take light hearted banter"! Always calling obsessed (your favourite word) whoever dares to criticize the D5 in anyway.

If you "spend 90% of your time on your own", you should buy a motorbike and not a Velar!

You told Tripe to "go out more", with contempt...well, you got the answer you deserved mate!
Besides, he lives in the most notorious country in the world for outdoor living... Rolling with laughter

Not sure why you’re getting your knickers in a twist.

No offence was intended to Tripe. If it has then I’ll send him a PM and apologise. And to whoever else has taken offence.

You could apply that train of thought to any car sales figures ...and is it an 'awful' lot out of nearly 40,000 units sold ? Confused

Of course all manufacturers are guilty of manipulating the figures.

Have they registered 40000 D5’s in the UK? I can’t believe they’ve sold that well.

i looked around a d5 when i got a newer d4, looking to see where the cost has gone,

the model i looked at had electric rear seats that folded forward to allow the rear most passengers to get in it also had electric buttons fro the rear upper and lower tailgates and what appeared to be a electrically deploy-able towbar, could not work out how to operate that though Shocked

suppose it all costs money?

as with other it does not tickle my pickle and will prob go with something else when i eventually upgrade, new range rover sport looked really nice in showroom but serious money Neutral

No of course not but UK sales are a substantial proportion of that 40k ....in any case what does any of the subject matter when conspiracy theorists on this site seemingly can't believe anything Laughing

The bogan sissy wagon doing good Whistle

How many are 'real sales' though and not figures manipulated by pre-registered examples.
LR Approved currently showing 456 D5's for sale, that's a lot of 2nd hand cars for a model not quite a year old Whistle

I'm not a serial D5 basher by the way, apart from the over fussy rear end I think it's a nice looking vehicle. I'm just struggling with the cost to change being in excess of £35k to 'upgrade' from my 2015 D4 Shocked

One of the 456 will be mine.

Robbing gits offered £40k and it’s selling for £48k.

And it's still got your plate on.
I Hated the D3 when that first emerged, i was back then a die hard DEFENDER Driver, the unfortunate thing was, i was loaned a D3 in 2004 and and i soon became very interested in one.

3 weeks ago i was loaned a D5, you can see where this is going... possibly one of the nicest vehicles i've had the pleasure of driving. The D5 is no more a DISCOVERY than the Disco Sport, It just isn't. Times have changed and things have moved on, from the first discovery to this theyre a lifetime apart just like the original Velar / Range Rover with its basic interior to the FFRR to day, unrecognisable.
The new DEFENDER will be a lifetime away from what has just gone, if you think the D5 debate rumbles on wait for the purists to start trying to assosciate the lineage in that.

Any one who has owned a Disco Sport knows it's a freelander, plain and simple. The D5 is a Range Rover with a DISCOVERY Badge on it. The HSE D5 is a far better car than the FFRR of just a few years ago. It's almost idetical to the RRS. For me its a Rangey with a Discovery badge on it that wears it proud, In years to come they will do away with the off set number plate and there will be hell on.... from the glass shaped rear door of the D1 to the opposite sided D2, the split tailgate of the 3&4 and now the 1 piece lid on the 5.

Talking points now, but what does the future hold.

The life story is they developed the D3's body as a monocoque body but needed to keep the chassis under for some reason I forgot.
Now if they simply added some stuff to this bodyshell and made it work with just subframes you'd have a car 300Kg lighter, more economical, for peanuts....

And they could name it D4II Laughing

" D4 too..."

Like a "designers retro edition" . limited series with 10.000 units..

The Disco Sport is not a bad car at all, in fact it’s very good at what it does, but it’s certainly no Freelander! Shocked

The D5 and the FF share a lot of underpinnings, while the dash and centre console have a lot of similarities and they certainly both share the, far too high in the air, boot floor (!) but they have more significant differences than similarities!

All that strength, but combined with a body that’s extremely spacious, with large and square door and window apertures, a lower boot floor, relatively slim doors and roof pillars, with a body design unincumbered by the need for multiple, bulky (and usually inconviently curving) box sections above floor level. That’s nowhere more obvious than comparing the size and squareness of the tailgate aperture, or which one has the coal hole interior for passengers in row two and especially row three!

Of course the new car is lighter, but the previous designers weren’t stupid - they just had a different (less car like and more practical) set of design criteria Thumbs Up
