Do you guys get contour lines??
We only get brown nothing with the occasional grey track or blue river when in off-road nav. (no contours in on-road either) Have a nice day!

Yes - but they are not very good, probably just there for authenticity. A bit like mock bolt heads moulded into plastic trims.

I assume it is flat around SECRET then.
The contours are the result of collaboration with OS, and when used in anger are actually quite hellpful.

Can you explain how?
I turned over the Wrynose pass today to give you the benefit of the doubt. at 1/4 mile zoom the screen looked like someone had thrown a stone at it (loads of lines everywhere) pity none was the road.

I go off road and I follow the tracks and never travelling alone... If i lived in Australia or the US I may find them useful... In little old England... probably not.
Do you go off road ?
If you can read a map and know that the closer the lines the steeper the slope, you would be able to read the sat nav.

Simon, was asking disco not you was wondering why he wanted to use contour lines on a road seems pointless to me .... if offroad then ok, but you dont exactly have any choice which route you take to avoid slopes etc. when on the highway.
not something i use as yet. and i doubt disco does either 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

yep...it does.
I would personally still prefer a paper map for studying contour lines to plan a route if i ever needed to. cant imagine its easy on the small screen of the D3 to plot and plan an offroad route. 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

agreed. if you could upload a route into the LR system like you can with Garmin or Tom Tom then it would make more sense.

THANK YOU - This was exactly the point I was making. I started this thread by asking if I could turn them off. The contour lines serve no real purpose other than to clutter the screen for ON ROAD navigation. Worse - at 1/4 zoom I had contour lines on the screen but not the road I was on.

1/4 scale on the main screen, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, will not provide you with accurate on-road navigation information. Set it to 1/8 scale for normal rural driving; 1/16 in town. That way you will get the most from the system, and the contour lines will not bother you.
As you know, because you were on it, there is a perfectly good (though somewhat hairy) road through Wrynose Pass. However, as it is only a minor road, it may not display if you've zoomed out too far - regardless of whether you are on it, or not.
Whether you find the contour lines of use, or not, is entirely down to you and not something that requires any generosity on your part. On road, they are really of "interest" value only, off-road they can be a useful tool when you are several miles from the nearest proper road.
