Sat Nav & radio clock staying on

Hi, I've read a few similar posts on here, but can't seem to find a definite cause or fix.

I've had a flat battery a couple of time recently on my 2005 HS Tdv6 Disco 3. I've charged it up and then it's fine and holds charge, but then one day it's all of a sudden flat again.

Last night I went out to get something out of the car, unlocked it, then locked it again and a bit later (maybe 15 mins) I could see the green glow of the radio display in the dark. I left it a while then went out to it, and both the nav screen and radio clock were showing. I unlocked it & locked it again, same thing. I then turned on the ignition without starting it, then switched off and locked it and everything went off ??

I'm guessing this is what's intermittently flattening my battery.

I've read about re-flashing the instrument panel and also doing a hard reset. I'll try the hard reset later and all read the fault codes with my iid tool.

Is re-flashing the instrument panel something that the iid tool can do ?

Thx

Mat

The display does stay on for 10 mins. It's normal. (but not great for owners!)

If I go to get something out the car, I either turn the ign to I and then off
or simply press the radio knob on and then off.

Either turns the display off, and saves draw on the battery

Hi Pete, thanks for the reply. I guess it must be staying on for more than 10 minutes otherwise it wouldn't flatten the battery ?

I'll have to keep an eye on it and make a few basic checks when I have a bit of spare time.

Thx

I fixed this... Smile

Decided that the first thing to do was replace the battery. I've had the car 3 years and the battery had a 2016 date code on it as far as I could tell. So it was due a new one for winter, I figured I'd really investigate further if this failed to solve the problem

Replaced it with the exact same Exide EA1000 from Tanya batteries, fitted it and everything was OK, left it standing now for ten days and it still spins over like new Smile

I guess the display staying on was a red herring, I double checked this and it takes about 15 minutes to go off, which seems like forever if you're standing watching it.

Just to prove a point, I charged the old one, then connected a 55v H7 headlight bulb, which drew about 4.5A, after about 4hrs it was down to 9v... so basically flat For a good 100A/hr battery I'd expect at least 15 hrs

Job done , good price on the new battery it was £79.99 delivered next day.
