Done and done! (but what's that connector???)
Thanks to hensoni's great advice, I have now successfully fabricated my SMB/RCA cable and it works great! Of course, due credit is due to wiggs for pointing out which connector is which and the secret code to access it all; to both.
I ended up not soldering anything, the pin caught the central conductor tight and I ended up crimping the ferrule over the braid with a pair of thick pliers. I then heat-shrunk everything (the one time I needed the camera on my phone and the battery died ) The other end has a female RCA connector and the whole wire has been temporarily been routed to the lower glovebox for ease of access. Here's a shot of it working with the Dogcam attached - used the reversing camera input for now:

While I had the dashboard apart, took a peak behind for the first time and noticed this loose, unplugged connector next to the climate control sensor (on the same loom it appears):

Anyone know what it is? (Mrs Biz joined me for the screen test and brought her camera with her )

Spot on!
Aren't you a little young to be driving? I presume that it's a self portrait?
In the future, if you get intermittent pictures (especially when driving over speed humps at irresponsible speeds ), the finger of suspicion needs to be pointed at the 'interference fit' of the central conductor.
How were the measurements for cutting, etc?

I'm older than I look!!!
Yep, measurements were spot on, a little trial and error to get the dielectric to fit exactly, but probably my getting it err, not quite right first time.
I have the suspicion I'll redo as the cable is now 4 meters long (much more tha I need!) and as you say, probably best to secure everything a little better (though the core was truly in place, gave it several tugs to test).
As a proof of concept though it went flawlessly and thanks again for all your help
(got any ideas what that connector is by any chance???)

I'm slightly concerned that the image on the screen is from the reversing camera and that you parked the D3 in the lounge to do the work D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Yes, SWMBO didn't appreciate it too much either She was actually the one I was reversing into, but had time to put up the shield to make me stop

Did anyone find the correct plug with 3-4 metres of coax attached, I dont mind chopping something off the end.
I'm just about to fit a Rosen Z10 roof DVD player and it would be great to connect the Aux out to the NAV screen.
Cheers

Martin,
Hey I am so new to this forum I see you mention that you will have these SMB to RCA assemblies in stock soon, please let me know if I am right in understanding your post. Was your post a reply to my request? if so please PM me directly to give me the details as to when I can buy three connections from you? I would rather wait to buy instead of putting them together myself.
Any help is greatly apreciated.

I'm waiting on some RG174 cable + phono inline jacks in the mail, then I'm going to do everything up.
Best of all, I'm going to take pictures + video detailing how to assemble everything in my first, of hopefully many, helpful tutorials!
Is there anything particular that people would like documented / emphasized?

As far as the RCA end of the cable... does contact only need to be made with the go-conductor... or do I need to make contact with both the go and return conductors? Before I solder up these ends of the cables I'm making, I want to be sure. Any insight would be appreciated! (Again I'm referring to the RCA end, not the SMB end.)
