Sat nav screen staying on |
|
Hi all,
I've got an issue with my 06 D3 that I'm hoping someone can help diagnose / solve.
If I unlock the car, then re-lock it without turning the key in the ignition, the sat nav screen stays lit up with the Land Rover symbol on it, and the radio display stays lit up too. It stays on for hours / overnight.
If I turn the key so all the dash lights up, but I don't have to start it, then remove the key and lock it up it all goes out.
This caused a drain on the battery last week resulting in an AA call out.
FamousFive kindly plugged in his IID and read the codes . There may be a clue in them so I've listed them below (so many fault codes ). No idea why all the 'cool' smileys have appeared in the code list. It is not cool to have these codes
Can any one offer any guidance on this?

I'm thinking if your fuel level was below a quarter thank, the aux heater messages can be discounted.
I suspect the stepper motor ones are unconnected with your fault but probably consequential as there are so many of them, maybe the same with sunroof and short circuits etc.
Did they all reset? Not such a Disco Newbie now!

the screen should switch off after 10 mins.
I always put the key in and turn it to I and off.

The screen is controlled by the infotainment relay in the CJB, if this is powered then the screen will stay on, you need to start looking at this circuit.

That I'm not too sure. I know FF 'cleared' all he could but what remained I'm not too sure.
It's always switched off, and I have no idea what changed to make it pull an all-nighter and drain the battery. & now it seems to do it each time I unlock then re-lock it.
I'm tempted to disconnect the battery and see if a reset helps (unless someone says that's a stupid idea).

I tell you what Flack, it's like a different language.......
I will use that as a starting point (by Google searching CJB)
Thank you all for your information !!

A battery reset is a good idea.
Maybe a replacement headunit radio then.

Mine used to do the same. Sat nav stayed on, or the clock stayed on or both. Had to do a hard reset every time I got somewhere to turn them off. Replaced the head unit and all was resolved. Managed to find a used one on here. Took 10 mins to swap them over. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

I'm so glad of this advice. Thanks
Mr Kington, When you say 'a hard reset' what do you mean by that??

Search on here. Basically let the car go to sleep. Pop bonnet and take battery cables off and essentially join them with a spanner or similar. Be careful not to touch the actual battery terminals for obvious reasons. You will hear see some static and after about 20 seconds reverse the process. I don’t know what it actually does but assume it re sets the ECU. This may cure the problem but mine kept defaulting back to the radio or clock staying on.
I bought one of MMJ who sent me one out that clearly hadn’t been tested and also had a stuck CD in it. Hence never used them again but I did get a working unit eventually. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

shouldn't that be
"pop the bonnet, then let the car go to sleep"?
If you open the door to pop the bonnet after, the car will wake again? Not such a Disco Newbie now!

I have a couple of occasional but differing faults.
Usually whilst driving and at completely random times, the whole infotainment system and satnav will go blank for a few seconds then re-boot. All the presets etc will remain but the clock will revert to 00:00. Then everything will continue to work as normal. For this I too suspect the head unit.
The second fault may or may not be connected and has only happened thrice in the last year or so;
I'll pull up to park the car, stop engine, remove key etc but the radio continues to play even when button pushed to switch off , the fob will not lock the door etc. dash says key in ignition even though it was not.
The first time a battery disconnect cured, the second time plugging in the IID and doing a fault reset (nothing untoward on the list other that the usual lost bus comms that all LR suffer from), the 3rd time I was driving and after a few minutes everything did a reboot as described in the first para and was back to normal.
If not linked to the first fault, I would suspect maybe the battery.... Not such a Disco Newbie now!

for that Mike, I would ensure the ignition key barell is lubricated, so that steering lock snaps on when key removed. and auxiliary circuit turned off

Sorry for the daft question - what's a CJB? Not such a Disco Newbie now!
