Sat nav update

Hi guys. Just picked up my 58 d3. It has probably been asked before on here but hey ho off for another time. I was wondering if it is possible to update the maps on the sat nav. I have seen some posts on here from people who haven’t got the clock on the dash. Mine has. Does this mean mine is as upto date as possible. Any info is much appreciated I don’t know much about the car but I am trying to learn as it is a major change from the td5 auto I had before

Many thanks

It is possible to update the satnav disk. First see what version you have. You can do this by ejecting the disk under the left side front seat (I have a LHD so it’s the driver’s seat but for you it won’t be I think). Whether it makes sense to update is another thing.... you’re better off with google maps or Waze (my favorite) than the LR satnav.

I don’t think the clock on dash is related to satnav but could be wrong.

Sat nav and dash readout are two separate systems.
If you have clock on dash (C.O.D.) it's because either your car is a late enough build to already have it OR a previous owner has updated the cars firmware to include it.

Sat nav is powered by a disc on the D3. Land Rover ceased to support this system after 2012 so the latest genuine disc will be dated 2012. Some owners have managed to install later versions by going after market but as these are not genuine and presumably illegal, you will not find that info here but eBay may help you if you're happy to risk it.

Many thanks for that guys. Like I said I don’t know much about the car at the mo but trying to learn about it. I have found disks on eBay for £45 I think ish. I know this thing is more complex than the d2. To be honest I do t trust eBay much as most of it is foreign stuff. I will try get the sim out and see what version I have in it and re post

Keep the disc you have and just use it for reference
The system is rubbish as it only works out time from the disc and doesn't take into consideration and roadworks or delays.
Much better to use google maps as they update and can chance course if need be

i've updated the sat nav disk in my D3 to 2018 cost of £24.00.
to be frank, the sat nav is horrid, so save your money and fit a TomTom, (other satNavs available)

I'm on my 3rd Disco: MY08D3, MY15D4 and now MY05D3..... 1st two had LR Nav and bloody useless, even the D4 which was a HSE Lux.

My current is an XS with no Nav and I use Google, which is a million times better Thumbs Up

Google maps every day of the week. I did side by side checks between the two on Scandinavian road trips and the LR SatNag was truely unless. In fact it was worse than useless as would try and take you in completely the wrong direction and wouldn’t sort itself out for quite a lot of miles. Waste of electricity was my verdict. Thumbs Up

But that might be the VC talking. Whistle

The screen of the factory fitted LR satnav is perfect - for sticking a Tomtom to Laughing

I'm sure that most of the members on here would agree that the LR satnav is utter pants and not even worth the money to upgrade/update.

Seems to me then that there isn’t a point in doing it shame it can’t be changed to use Tom Tom or something else

I pitted the LR sat navy against tomtom, for a trip out, the LR was trying to send me a very long way around, would have added about 6 miles to the journey compared to tomtom's.
The algorithm in the LR is very much out of date.

Much better off using waze on your phone , its free and includes speed cameras too . I plug a bluetooth receiver into the cigarette lighter socket ate the rear of the center console which in turn plugs Into the auxiliary input next to it , I can then have the sound over the car speakers when aux is selected on the head unit. Very Happy The only drawback is the smaller screen size .
