First time poster!
Just about to take delivery of a 2006 D3 HSE (Had a 2005 ex-demo S a few year ago - missed it so much so I've gone for another! I've been driving a Toyota Avensis Tourer T180 for the last three years - good car but not a D3)
Anyway, really sorry if this is somewhere within the forum (I have searched) but wondered how easy it was to upgrade the sat nav in my 2006. Is it a case of just getting an up to date DVD, if so where from & cost or is it not this easy!
Great forum by the way - love all of the top tips! - Is there a top ten tips? i.e. love the secret storage areas etc.
Many thanks,
Shanks.

Hi there!
It's just a swap of DVDs. Before you buy, check with the others if the newer disc has the functionality and locations you want. I didn't change mine as it still couldn't find my postcode!

I expect TLO @ Yeovil LR can supply you with an original up-to-date DVD <Snip>

1 important thing to bear in mind, is that if you upgrade the as supplied disc in your 2006/2006 model vehicle is that you will lose the ability to enter the pin code to allow you to enter your destrination whilst on the move.
If you want to enter your destination on the move after you upgrade you will have to get a dealer (cost around 80 quid) or see if you can get someone with a multi VIN faultmate (like forum member Wiggs) to upgrade your vehicle software.
I upgraded recently to the 2010 disc, and got the dealer to do the upgrade whilst it was in doing something else.

I bought a 2006MY HSE, and updated the disc to the latest available (09/10) it improves some of the functionality, and gives the icons a more 'modern look'
As far as post codes, mine has never 'yet' failed to find any post code I have driven to. ok, the LR satnav system is not in the same league as a tom tom, but it is more than adequate for most driving, you do have to apply common sense, and check the route, as it will send you on some strange directions occasionally.
As far as 'sat nav on the move' - almost ALL aftermarket portable satnav systems do not lock when you move, LR are just covereing their backsides against potential claims if you have a mishap whilst driving
As always, a sensible helping of common sense should be used, using a sat nav whilst driving is no different to using the radio, eating, drinking coffee, hands free phone operation, or any other functions (that can distract) kids screaming in the back etc
I had mine done using IDS, best thing I did Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k
previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !
