Satnav slow to lock on.

In the last week or so I've had a problem with the satnav. When I start the car I get the usual disclaimer and click through to the map screen where a small icon (the letters GPS with a red line through them) appears at the top left of the screen. When I set off it can take about 10 minutes before the satnav finds itself and gives an accurate position. Until that time it tends to show me driving through fields about 5 miles from my actual position.

If it helps diagnose it, this only seems to happen when starting from cold.

I can speed it up by pulling over and entering the nav setup/calibration screen, not changing my location and simply hitting return (top right bendy arrow) which seems to kick the system into a hot reboot whereupon the system finds me in a couple of seconds and the "no gps" logo at the top left disappears.

Any thoughts? Confused
 I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I've had this occasionally. Last time was on the way home home from Boughrood in December. I had the GPS logo with the strike through for about 1/2 an hour on the way home. Sometimes when I set off in the morning, it has me on the wrong side of the village. It then catches up. There does not seem to be a pattern to it though.

Good to know I'm not alone Thumbs Up

Just to eliminate the obvious, I'm setting of with clear line of sight to the sky and this has happened when overcast, when raining and (rare at the moment) with clear skies, so it's not a line-of-sight failure (although I wouldn't expect one with the decent chipset, which I presume the D3 has).
 I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Could the roof aerial be leaking water - not penetrating the headlining, but causing errors?

Oh Malc, if only I were important enough, instead of just thinking I am Mr. Green

I think John may be onto something, as once water gets into that pod it's likely to stay there, although why it only does it on a cold engine puzzles me a bit

Perhaps once you've driven round a few corners the water 'sloshes' out of the pod from where it has gathered and sorts itself out... which might make it feel like it only does it when warm...

The GPS receiver isn't in the 'wart' on the roof.... it's part of the high level brake light assembly

which explains why it still works when the wart is covered by a roofbox.

Sat in the drive with engine on earlier. As soon as I hit the recalibration button and hit the "back" button without doing anything it locked on. Very odd Confused
