Screaming Handbrake Fail-EPB & Only Happened Twice in 4y |
|
First time the Disco done this was about 8 weeks ago. Reported the issue at the time of it's 4th service only to be told, "Sorry but no codes were stored".
As of last Friday 4th May, the EPB jammed on up the street and would not go off. AA collected Disco yesterday and in she went to local dealership.
Phone call this afternoon to say, a part of the handbrake inside of drum has siezed and was causing thje screaming, as trying to pull the shoes on all the time. Then can the clanger.
But, we were unable to code the EPB back to the vehicle, so you now ned a new EPB at £430 ish + Vat, pluse £250 labour.
I'm sorry, but if LR changed their servicing schedule to include removal of rear disc, drum then they would have spotted the issue 6 weeks ago, as well as being able to free the part off or have replaced it, as well as saved me about £500 ish.
I honestly do not know how they LR can expect an EPB or any handbrake to be maintained by simply adjusting the shoe tolerances to grip the drum. And it has been serviced to their LR's own schedule. So im my humble opinion this is a LR issue, as they clearly specify the drums do not need to be removed to service the handbrake.
Anyway, let LRCS know the issue on Friday when it happened and the CS advisor is away to speak to his manager. Fingers, Legs, eyes, nose, anything and everything crossed.
Fleck that for a handbrake, best part of £700. ATB

I think they call it "paying for yer apprentership", bought a "new" OEMLR boxed one off a forum member only to find when being fitted the car would not communicate with it, ended up having to pay for another dealer supplied one to be fitted and managed to send the faulty one back against warranty - best part of £500 out of pocket (original epb assembly + first unsucessful fitting).
Strangely just had it cleaned and adjusted today even though I seldom use it

Character, who ever designed the EPB as well as making up the service shedule obviously has no concept of real world mechanics.
The service manager had mentioned that allot of modrn cars have these EPB type set ups fiyyed these day. Ah, but all these modern cars are not ment to go off roading!
If they only started to include removal of the rear disc, drum in the maintenance schedule, these things would not be happeining and they are on another planet thinking that we, the customers are ok to pay these ,mad costs.
Bring back the transmission brake. At least it worked from 1948 til BMW stuck the EPB in, in 2004.
It is TATA i feel for, having to pick up all these screw ups by Ford & BMW.
Rant over. ATB

An unnamed Franchise did, thats all i am saying for now, till i hear what LR are saying about it.
It screamed at a set of traffic lights and i managed to switch it off, let go to sleep and it had righted its self and it was another week or two after that it went in for it's 4th annual service.
6 weeks later and the unit will not communicate with vehicle.
I am no mechanic by trade, but have plenty of friends who made it up to Master Techs in their respective franchises. They've built asperated cosie mk2 escorts from scratch etc etc and as such i have done most of my own work on the cars, replacing big ends, pistons, rings, cams etc etc.
I have worked in the motor trade for a number of years a an internal garage equipment engineer for Scotlands largest motor group.
In all my years of working as well as working on my own vehicles since 1984, i have never heard anything as downright stupid as not removing the rear drums, discs. Sanding the braking face of thje brake linning and or getting a grinder onto the back edges of the drums.
I can feel a need to go outside and scream at the top of my lungs.
The biggest issue are the prices for myself, as being ex motor trade all my parts were discounted to Cost + 10% + VAT, as were the labour rates at 50% discount for staff. Then when you leave, you know you are getting bent over a barrel. ATB

Had a call from LR CS and they are making a good will gesture to a new EPB by paid towards EPB & Labour.
Nowe that i have had a chance to check the workshop manual, it seems like the handbrake, brake shoe spreader had seized and because of this, the EPB motor kept over running tring to take up the play which it obviously could not do.
Why the actual EPB wouldn't re-code back to the car is something i know nothing about, but it certainly seems like a silly idea and set up, especially passing on the costs to the customer, purely through a lack of rear drum, disc removal protocol as advised by LR themselves. ATB
