FBH - Remote Park Heating - How is it supposed to work?

I've had Remote Park Heating added thanks to Bodsy and woody32. I'm still slightly confused as to the operation though.

It seems to work if the engine is stone cold, however if the coolant is slightly warm, say you've been out for a walk and the car was running an hour ago, it seems to enable the fan but not fire up the FBH or coolant circulation. The result is that instead of warming a cold cabin, it's blowing cold air into it.

I imagine this is a design feature but I thought I'd ask in case I was doing something wrong.

I know it needs at least a certain level of fuel (not sure how much) and the external air temperature to be below... well depends where you read it but let's say 14 degrees C.

I’ve just fitted Bodsy’s kit to my D4 and had a bit of learning to do in the process, it’s dependant on temperatures, if it’s cold < 15c (ish) it will bring on the heater fans and FBH to warm the engine and cabin, if it’s warm as in your case where the engines been running beforehand it only brings on the heater fans to circulate the air which is ideal for summer.

Sounds like it’s all working ok tho

Thumbs Up

I'm pretty sure the ambient temperature was only 11 degrees and it was still running without the FBH. The only difference being that the coolant was slightly warm.

I think that’s the critical bit, if the engines at all warm the FBH will note this and won’t start, of course I may be completely wrong and there may be an underlying issue but your description of how it operates fits with exactly how my system is operating as well.

If your not sure it’s always worth getting it checked out. Bodsy is extremely knowledgable about the FBH system and I’m sure he will keep you right.
