I'm currently looking at a tdv6, probably used.
Is a HSE worth the extra 4 grand or so ?
cheers

I have an HSE, my parents an SE, there probably isn't that great a difference, unless you start wanting extras as these won't really add value to your SE but being standard on the HSE are taken into the residuals. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I have an SE, but I did the LRE in an HSE. The only real difference I noticed was an almost useless 4x4 info screen and 'off road' sat-nav. I think the other main difference is a problematic voice control system.
As with everything, you should probably get the best you can afford. Would I have paid the extra in retrospect for a new HSE - NO! Do I wish I had an HSE - only for the snobbery of the badge!!!
I imagine the differential on a 2nd hand motor is probably a good bit less, however, I have been led to believe that the SE is reckoned to be the best seller in the used market.
I thnk the difference between the S spec and the SE spec is well worth the difference though.
You pays your money..........

My voice control is great. It works well so long as you set it to English Female.

The 4x4 info is great if you drive off road, it is not a gimmick. I've never used the off road navigation, has anyone?
As far as voice recognition, you need to go into settings and at the bottom half of the screen are 2 boxes, go into both and change the language to UK. It then talks as a female voice and it works well. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I have used the off-road nav. I used it in Wales to mark the start and end of each lane we drove. I also marked a few waypoints along the lanes. The snail trail can be useful to record a safe return track across unmarked ground. It is not easy to use, and I think its over complicated.
The problem is limited memory, and I can't download them. Its far better to use an in-car PC, seen a few of these now, running Fugawi or Memory map linked to a gps reciever.
I have got an O2 Xda Mini S with a blue tooth gps receiver. I have loaded Memory Map on my laptop, and paired it with my Xda. Now before I go on a trip, I download the relevant maps from the Laptop to the Xda. I have a 1gb mini sd card in the Xda which will hold a lot of maps.
I have it mounted on a vent mount, and it was excellent on our recent Salisbury expedition. It really is a bonus to see realtime Ordnance Survey map scrolling in front of you, with your position marked.
It also keeps a track of where you have been, and you can download that info back to the laptop when finished to keep a record.
I suppose the in car PC is better, because you would not have to be uploading/downloading before and after each trip, but then again, they would take up more space. The screen would also be easier to read than on my Xda.

had to be the hse for me just for the simple fact i could afford it so why not this might sound quite sad but my favourite thing on the car is when you start it up and on the sta nav screen the bigland rover badge and all the driving warnings come up

You'll be getting a reputation
Gareth, excuse my ignorance, do you mean you use a pda type device that you down load memory map maps onto? If so would this be possible to use with an ordinnary pc? Also why can't you use a lap top in the car without the pda? Sorry to be DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

BOTH the SE & the HSE have this on the screen. The only difference is that the HSE has an off-road sat nav screen (which isn't worth paying £000's to upgrade) whereas the SE just has perfectly good on-road sat nav.

Its been said before its your choice and only you will know whats right for you. or for whats its worth I love my HSE, you might not. in easy terms do you want a sunfoof and two extra windows in the roof if not go for the SE if so then its HSE or an SE with a tin opener

Thanks for the replies so far .... Is the alpine roof worth having overall ?
If I buy used I reckon I'm looking at a 4 - 6 k difference on a similar age / mileage car.
I do think the 19" wheels make the car look better but they could be added later.
Is there anything else I wouldn't get on an SE that I may want later ?
cheers
