Bonnet will not open.

Hi

After some help trying to open a D4 Bonnet, the cable release appears stretched and is not operating the catches, I have manged to release the drivers side catch but need some help on releasing the passenger side catch.

Due to the security implications please reply by PM.

Thanks for any help.

Richard

Yup! Never been a problem and yet I arrive at the MOT centre and it won’t open.

The good news is that the bonnet opened and it sailed through the MOT this morning, so cradgebank’s perseverance paid off in the end! Thumbs Up

Had a cable snapped or was the catch just gummed up ?

The cable was intact but was not pulling the release catches. Richard said that the release mechanisms were very tight (almost over tightened) but must have been like that from new as they haven’t been touched in the last three years at least. He cleaned them up and adjusted them. They now work better than they ever have done (in my custody), but to be on the safe side, new cables are on order, just in case they’ve stretched.

It was very strange, as I’ve never had a problem opening the bonnet, although now things are nice and free, it does make me realise how tight the release lever (in the footwell) was before.

D4 Bonnet not releasing

G'day from Australia,
Not to sure how the forum works, but have received a response from a member who is checking that his method is correct. However I see "Hardware" has provided assistance to other members, I would appreciate someone sending me that method. I have a broken/disconnected bonnet release cable on my 2015 Discovery. I tried to PM a member of this forum to elaborate on the procedure they used to release the bonnet to effect repairs. However, the forum would not allow me to PM. Would someone who has effected this repair please PM me with their procedure. At this stage I have the grill released from the bottom and managed to grip the connecting cable and released the drivers side catch.

Bonnet Release

Thanks Hardware,
I had already figured it out, and as seems to be the case, the junction box had opened allowing the cable connecting both the driver and passenger side bonnet catches to detach.
I was beginning to think the lack of response may have had something to do with the recent Ashes Test!
Many thanks for getting back to me.
