Which Security Lock

I'd really appreciate members views on the following -

After 8 years and 160000 miles the D3 HSE will 'retire to pastures new' and I'm picking up a 14MY D4 HSE Lux in a couple of weeks and then the next day heading north for some much needed R&R salmon fishing.
I'm planning on our return to have a Ghost system fitted but I'd like to add a visual deterrent too.
I did notice on Amazon that a buyer mentions that Disclock didn't fit correctly on his LR due to the paddles on the steering wheel - is this correct?
Has anyone any experience with the Stoplock Pro Elite Steering Wheel Immobiliser - it gets some really good write ups in some websites.
I think first thing will be to disable the keyless entry as the fist level and then add a steering lock and then Ghost.

Any help, thoughts, or previous experience with either of the locks would be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards
Graham

I use a Disklok on mine (2016MY) HSE without issues. I don’t know if there are any differences on the model you are getting that might affect this. This device seems to get lots of recommendations.
If you do get one make sure you get the right size. I have a medium size which fits 39-41.5cm diameter wheels.
There’s an elasticated cover that you can get that goes around the steering wheel before you put the lock on, I would recommend that too for a small extra cost.
Let us know what you find andwhich way you go.
Cheers

Get the carry bag as well - stops it rolling around the cabin.
Definitely a Medium Size DiskLock - there was group buy on here a couple of years ago so I think they are well recommended.
Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.
Ex D3 and D4

After hours on t'internet searching I decided on Crooklock plus steering wheel cover and bag. Looks like nothing will stop the determined and properly equipped b*stards but anything that slows them for a while till I can get the door open to let the dog 'meet' them will help!!!

thanks Adam and Gary for your replies and suggestions

Kind regards
G

did you mean Disclok, not crooklock ?

if you've not bought yet ... they're from just near you in Chorley. Maybe they have a factory outlet ?

I purchased a Stoplock Pro Elite for my 2016 Landmark. Works fine around paddles. Will photograph in position if you wish. Excellent but essential to diable keyless entry anyway.

Keyless entry will be disabled on leaving the Land Rover dealership.

Yes, Disclock arrives tomorrow.

If keyless entry disable doesn’t work (or perhaps even if it does??) you could buy a faraday pouch to put your keys in when indoors. Blocks the signal so it cannot be received and amplified outside your house.
Normally about £5.

Cheers

I've got medium Disklok on my MY12 with fappy paddles and it fits fine.

I even tried driving back and forth a couple of metres on my drive and it's friggin' impossible to do with the disklok on Laughing

I had the offer of the ghost system but decided not to bother because if the Disklok doesn't put them off then forcing you to tell them the code won't put them off either.

Fortunately it's very rare, but it does happen where people are hit with bats etc until they disclose the code.

Most Landrovers are nicked off the driveway by one of the following:

Carkey burglary - Generally a lock snap, sneak in steal keys and take car. 9/10 the keys are visible by shining a torch through the window/letter box so they can get in and out quickly as they've already clocked the location of the keys prior to breaking in. Anti snap locks would be a good starting point.

Relay attack - One stands by the car, another moves the device around until the key code is picked up and the car can be opened and started. They then program another key once away from the location.

Obd attack - Same as the Ford and BMW, pop window, plug device in, program key and away they go.

Yes a Ghost system would help, but so would a Disklok providing you keep the key separate and hidden from view. If they are determined, they'll take it. The visible presence of a Disklok (and hiding the keys from view - you could still leave them downstairs if you didn't want the thought of someone coming upstairs to get them) would put most people off.

If they are that determined, it's a choice of let them take it or use reasonable force to stop them.

I'll spend the £300 I've saved on the ghost on beer to help me sleep soundly in my pit at night. Laughing

Many thanks James for the sensible and thought out advice Smile

I'll let the disklock do its job in the first instance and save £399. It would be a brave person (or complete idiot) to enter the house looking for keys with the dog waiting behind the door!!!

Two faraday key pouches ready and waiting for keys.

Kind Regards
G

At least you get a heads up from the dog if someone is prowling on the driveway too.

The image of me running down the stairs with my tackle out would be enough to put all but the most determined burglar off. Rolling with laughter
