Seems I'll go for the v8

Yes, after testing the diesel. it is powerful, smooth, drinks very little, but... it's not a v8 petrol, and being used to the horribly low mpgs a carburettored 2-and-a-half-litre land rover four-pot engine gives, I even found the V8 disco II economical!

So I hope that before or after Christmas to be the proud owner of a Disco 3 (or RRS) in V8 form. Mossy, you won't be alone down here!

Only one small and stupid question. The RRIII post 2006 MY use the same 4,4 V8 engine, and some of them have developed very worrying and annoying coolant leaks (rad and header tank), still not solved. Any Disco 3 V8 owner with coolant leaks?

The FFRR 4.4 is diffrent to the RRS and the D3 4.4 so the D3 V8 may not suffer the same problems as the FFRR's V8.

They are built on the same line and do share some common components like the pistons, crank, heads, the block and the cooling pipes are diffrent.

If you need anymore info on the V8 let me know

Thumbs Up You wont be disappointed! The engine has and is performing flawlessly. I have had no problems with it at all and fuel-wise, get out on a long run and 22 - 24 mpg is possible if you’re at a steady 70-80 mph. Bit different around town or if you like to have fun though.

You could not imagine the dealer's rep voice on the phone when I told I did not want the cairns blue ex demo HSE at 46,500 Euro and I wanted a v8 instead.. Complete shock. They had never sold or seen one.

But, after all, I am the one who drives and enjoys the LAnd Rover, so I assume I have the right to choose the engine.

Thank you all for this great info. Chris, where did you get that valuable info from?

Besides, Mossy, your D3 VIn is a 4A, 5A or 6A?

I'm totally agreed with you that the V8 engine is quite powerful, and there is no problem with the coolant leak yet, (the odometer shows about 70k KM) but the only problem is the fuel cons. that is almost 17L/100km..
It's not a problem in Kuwait cause the 102 octane gasoline is less than 0.4$/L, but you have to visit the petrol station almost every day Mad

It's a tough life, don't suppose you could mail some to us where we pay 1.6$/ltr! At your prices I'd quit happily frequent the forecourt more often! Wink

The diesel fuel is even cheaper than the gasoline, cause the only cars that are using the diesel are the heavy trucks only. Smile

102 octane gasoline? We only get the regular 95-odd octane "soup" here, but at 0,95 Euro/litre (about 1,18 USD/litre).
The 98 octane is also available but is so seldom used taht I'm pretty sure has lost a lot of the octane rating for being so ling stored in petrol stations.

with 102 octane gas your Disco may fly! Here there is significant difference between 95 octane and the old 97 octane leaded. I almos lost a gear in my old 2,5 litre SWB Santana Land Rover.

You are very lucky. Cheap gasoline, big engines, great beaches, great sand dunes...

I would love the V8 myself its a great engine only thing stopping me is the price of it over the diesel D3's.

Maybe my next one will have the V8 petrol unless the TDV8 gets put in the D3.

UP UP UP!
Sorry for bringing this back up, I just did not want to start another thread.
Just asking. I've found a really nice v8 SE in Germany, at a sensible price (my local dealer just did not want to know anything about petrol discos, as he's the dealer who has sold more diesels discos in Spain, so he can sleep well).

It's registered in december,2004, so I do not know if it's a '04 or '05 build (better if it's the 05).

My concerns are as always, regarding electronics, you know. If it's eligible for the reassurance pack and the recall regarding park brake, cables and so on, and the new software is downloaded properly, could I live without fear every day or that's asking too much?
I know a bad earthing or a bad contact can leave me stranded, and I fear '04 build vehicles.

Besides, I think it has a 3 yr. warranty. LR warranty is claimable throughout Europe, but what about a warranty extension? Don't know ifLR Spain would like to know about a warranty extension in an imported LR. Or extending it in Germany as things coming from Germany are currently accepted here in spain.

Mossy, what year-build is yours? I see your disco has been niggle-free so far.

Thanks in advance for reading this soooo long post

Robert,

Is there a way you can get access to the service/dealer history and all the reported problems ? If it has only gone in for the known issues and they have been resolved then the vehicle should be "clean" in that respect
