Hi Hellboy....sry to hear about the probs. Only thing to do is remain calm and focus on fact that LR or dealer will be paying.......car only 3 weeks out of dealer and seizes....sounds like time to find out why.

Have an 02 Vectra SRI estate, snapped timing chain 6 months out of warranty with usual impact on valves etc..had full service history and chain is a 'non-serviceable' item. Quitely suggested that I did not expect to have to pay for any repairs at main dealers......they fitted new engine FOC and gave loaner for 14 days it was off the road with no hassle at all.

So be polite but insistant, also see if you can get hold of service history details.

Good luck

yep it is sitting in at perth just know and i am waiting to find out if they are going to contribute a wee bit more which i think they will ,and to answer most of the questions there was no sign of the reason for it all they told me was that it was seized and it was unrapairable and yes it has a full service history, last one on the 19th january 09,LR informed garage straight away that they will give a new engine because it is only just out of warrantey but thats fine if they will pay a wee bit more than 25%.

There are people running round in D3's with 270,000 odd miles on original engine, Insist that your contribution should be an absolute max of 10%. Thumbs Up , Good Luck.

Surely the engine is the same whether it has a Manual or Auto gear box attached, i didn't think they did seperate engines for each type Confused

Crankshafts can be different - some manual cranks aren't suitable for automatics

Unless you bought it privately I would just take it back to whoever you bought it from. Even if you did not get a proper warranty, there is a 3 month rule on used cars from traders.

What I thought, if you bought a car and it had a fault within 3 months it is assumed in law that the car had the fault when you bought it. Might be worth checking this (law changed a few years ago), then if it is and you get problems with the dealer you can discuss the matter with Trading Standards. Just a thought.

PS Mrs DSL suggests check out the Telegraph's Honest John website as he's discussed this topic. Thumbs Up

If they won't fix it, get the car towed over the road opposite the dealers, put a big f Censored k off sign on the roof saying

"I bought this car from a dealer pretty close to here, the engine blew up after 3 weeks and they won't replace it"

I was going to ask was there any warnings, such as oil light, showing before it locked up.

Did you look under the vehicle to see if oil had been lost. Did the recovery company check the oil level before they recovered you? If the recovery company said there was no oil showing on the dipstick get a statement from them as the dealer may have topped it to disguse the fact someone their end was blameworthy.

Assuming that you have not done anything to kill the engine, have a read of this:

http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/faq.htm?id=43

BL, would have thought that if there was oil in there it was a sign that there was a non user problem??? If there was no oil there was the "ah but you did not check the oil this week sir, you are so screwed!" get out. Evil or Very Mad

The TDV6 RRS and D3 engines are the same, BUT depending on which model or manual or auto the ancilliaries will differ, they still fit eachother no problems but thee is a lot of work swapping the parts over.

We did a D3 manual a couple of weeks agao and used a RRS auto engine, we had all the ancilliaries and bracktry to swap over also.

And the flex plate had to come of and the manual flywheel fitted in its place, the cranks are all the same.

A pain of a job but doable.

And the engine was 1k from ebay with 50k on the clock..

But i still think the dealer should sort this for you and not have to do it your self.
