Scotland 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3
Smash 1 year ago today

Very careless taxi driver (without a current MOT may I add), speeding round a blind corner. I managed to stop as was taking my time (Disco not really a sports car.....) and she never even tried to maneuver, she just ran straight into the front of me.

Don't think she was happy, I clearly wasn't.....

Think she came off worse though, Glad I was in a Disco.

Clearly though, she could have gotten a bus through there sideways without hitting me.

Insurance bill was £4000 for the repair and £21,000 (yes £21,000. It was £328 per day for two months) for the hire of the loan car (66 plate Landmark).

She runs well and has done me proud, here's hoping I always drive Land Rover.

Very careless taxi driver (without a current MOT may I add).

You will find most taxi's without a MOT on the government database.
This is because they usually go for a test either annually, 6 monthly or even every 4 months (depending on the Authority and age of car) at a special test facility without which they do not get the taxi plate.

Thats correct, I go for a certificate of compliance every 6 moths and renew my plate at the same time. But every year get a mot certificate from the examiner (Free of charge) so I can tax the car online Thumbs Up

Took about two weeks to repair and the rest of the time it sat in the garage waiting for her to admit liability. Pictures proved she was at fault, invoice was paid by her insurance company and my car was released from the garage.

I did however manage to take the new Disco 4 on a good old test drive through over a foot of snow towing 3 kids behind on sledges. Lots of fun Thumbs Up

Sorry, but I think £21k for a loan car whilst yours was repaired was more than extreme. It's no wonder insurance premiums rise. No doubt it was one of those accident management companies that took over.
Has her insurance paid for the hire car? You could have trouble justifying the expense tbh. It's just not reasonable.

^ I agree. If I was her insurance company I'd test it in court. The cost of hiring the replacement car was significantly greater than the value of your car and the repairs. We were involved in a similar thing with one of the guys on site in a pick up and got our insurer to fight it, which took some effort but they did and eventually won. More and more insurers are now fighting these accident management scammers.

I still can't get over the price, £2,296 per week! Shocked

Even Avis aren't charging that.

As you said Moo, the rental price of the car far exceeds the value of the car damaged, I'd be very surprised if the insurance company will wear that one but you never know.

Next the Accident Management Company will be encouraging a whiplash claim. There should be a law banning these companies tbh.

Can't understand why the Insurer of the Disco didn't authorise and pay for the repair (presumably with its value its insured Comprehensive)

That way there would have only been 2 weeks of hire and saved over £15000 !
