Service indicator after non main dealer service
Chaps,
I've had my Disco 3 serviced by my local good value, reliable independant garage (with genuine parts of course). The only problem now is that he cannot reset the service indicator.
Would anybody know how this can be done outside the dealer network?
Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
You can use an OBDII connector and a connected pc with software - however this is make dependant. You will have to do some more digging to find if you can reset the service indicator. OBDII is a standard - but only so far, as it can be extended and changed by the manufacturer - and only a small set of information can be obtained/changed this way. It is still worth a look around as there are many people actively developing software/hardware to interface cars and computers.
Have a look on wikepedia - more links to sites there.
BTW - I looked at this for my Disco1 but it wasnt compatible (made prior to the introduction of any standards).
Otherwise you need to find a garage with the LandRover test equipment to reset it for you, and will probbaly charge

Thanks - I appreciate your response. Since it's now possible to service anywhere without affecting warranty, I would expect the manufacturer to be open with their tools - or am I living in a fantasy world

Your independent dealer can buy the equipment they need so I would guess they don't want to or are unaware they can.
