Servicing a 2014 Disco 4 - Dealer or Indy ?
I've not had a new-ish car for quite some time. My 2003 td5 I'd had for quite some years now.
I normally use a very good independent mobile mechanic for all the family car servicing. But wondering if I should take what I think is a fairly new-ish car to a Dealer (who will not probably think my car is new-ish in the slightest), or a good independent LR specialist, or carry on as I am.
Apart from cost are there any compelling reasons to go to a Dealer ?
Any recommendations ?

If the car has had main dealer services from new without any missing or late use a main dealer, should your car suffers any major mechanical disasters LR are far more likely to be sympathetic, they also have all the latest software updates available, they are not necessarily any more expensive than an independent, some owners may not agree but you will get a new car usually a LR to ride about in while it’s being done and a “free” valet second to none.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
I agree entirely. Main dealer for scheduled services, but good independent for everything else, which for me is Oil & filter change midway between main services, Mots, gearbox megaflush etc..

Independent. I initially had mine serviced at dealers, but swapped to Indy.

When i recently found out my local main dealer is now charging £180 per hour labour rate it will be Indy all the way for me. I used to work at the same main dealer and wouldn't trust them any more than a good LR specialistPrevious Discos

Lots of independent dealers can do all the software updates, mine has both Autologic and the LR SDD system.

I’d say it depends on if your keeping it for a while, if your keeping it then it’s less of an issue as the older they get it becomes more important to just have a regular service history rather than who did it. If it technical diagnosis or problems with the computers you need investigating a dealer is maybe better. For Standard service items an independent will do just as good a job sometimes with more care!MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten
MY12 HSE - Gone
MY16 HSE Luxury - Sold
MY20 D5 HSE - Sold

Thanks. Kept my Disco 2 Landmark for 6 years, plan on keeping this one until the next generation cars come through, be that electric, hydrogen etc etc, so probably another 6+ years
If the D4 had Apple Carplay, it would be my perfect car, don't know what on earth I'd trade it in for that would be better.

thanks for all the input chaps.
Fifth service, 64k wil be done by Guy Salmon at Thames Ditton, my local LR dealer. I've heard mixed reviews of them, but will give them a go once to see.
Total cost for the 5th service is 676 inc VAT, parts and labour.
So I'm prepared for the 6th service and beyond - anyone recommend / know of a independent for the next services / updates etc ?

^ Thanks for link on LR fixed price servicing.
Service costs don't look too bad for my MY14 D4.
Brake pads inc sensor at £225 seems extortionate.
But cambelt at £695 is better than expected (but that's without oil pump)🏴

wonder if the £695 for cambelt also includes the 2nd belt as well ? if so its worth thinking about for mine as indy are coming in around that price
also £495 for a major service seems quite reasonable given that indy are coming in about £450
im going round to my local LR Dealer near work in Doncaster today anyway so ill ask them what they will charge
