Well, that's it. I've had enough. As much as I love her, like the beautiful girl who leaves you standing outside the cinema one too many times, the D3 has let me down for the last time.
Over two and a half years, I have sadly had many of the usual things fail on my D3 (compressor, EGR valves, intercooler hose, alternator, tailgate lock etc. etc.). I have put up with them largely because I really do love the old girl, but the real problem is the coincidence of timing that has resulted in most of the big problems always seeming to hit when I am abroad. That has become really tiresome, and this summer culminated in two breakdowns within three weeks. Add to that the things I already know need doing (ARB bushes, lower wishbone arms etc. etc.) and those that I merely suspect (I have a strong suspicion that the turbo is not long for this world) and sadly, enough is enough.
So... tomorrow I will give her away (near enough, and accompanied by a wadge of cash) to a man who will in return hand me the keys to a shiny blue product of the Bavarian Motor Works instead.
I will miss her though... 2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)
2005 D3 S 10-12 (gone and missed)

Tried to be sensible myself- and failed miserably. Enjoy your new motor, don't worry it will hold its value very well so you can come home again.
The force still runs strong in you- remember! D4 3.0 SDV6 GS 13
