Think I was an early victim of the cold start up shimmy and spent ages chasing down LR to have a look at the vehicle. Their conclusion was that it was a "feature" of the vehicle and told me "they all do it". The LR technical guy did try to explain the reasons for it but I can't now remember so unfortunately I can't pass it on to you. However he did tell me it was not a problem with the glow plugs so I am unsure if changing them would make a difference.

Mine's always done this. I too just think that it's a big diesel lump so a couple of seconds of wobble isn't anything to worry about whilst it gets going.
I also have a puff of white smoke on cold startup (and it is smokey, almost like wood smoke)D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Whilst working at Short Brothers....Belfast in the flags dispute days of action had the responsibility for a group of diesel alternators that kept the Sydenham side of the plant / airport "lit"
One alternator had a moderate sized marine diesel .... with isenthal controls was a b@gger to start
A colleague sprayed a whole can of easystart into the intake then rammed the filter back on....
Ok the engine fired the blew the filter into the alternator room brick wall & blew a hole in it
Like a cannon shell......BOOM
East start = ether = very combustible = explosiveBREXIT - done properly.
