FUEL CONSUMPTION

Done 1200 miles now from new (TDV6 S Auto ) and the readout shows 30.4.I commute 22 miles to work on A roads with very little town driving. The consumption is the same as my old TD5.Also owned a Jeep Cherokee 2.5 diesel manual (24 mpg),Shogun 2.8 diesel auto (24 mpg), Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 diesel (26 mpg) and a Freelander 1.8 petrol (30 mpg).I don't use air-con unless I have to and rarely use kickdown.A friend has an X5 which does 25-30 mpg. When I had the TD5 I met another owner with a TD5 who was getting 13 mpg and had it booked in at Land Rover to find the problem!
Anyone out there with a chipped TD6 to compare fuel consumption?

I can drive from SW London to Perth (463 miles) on a tank of diesel in the D3 and still have a few miles spare; my old TDi would need to be refuelled after about 420-430. Considering the tank is smaller in the D3 and the engine is larger, I'm impressed with the better economy. Then again, it did cost me a net expense of £25,000 to achieve this...

Dealer Comment

I am aware that there are some dealers registered.

Any comments from you.............Is this normal..................Should I get it checked...........or a software update?

I think they are all done?

Cheers

Ours was doing about 21 mpg around town. Short trips, school runs, shops etc. But it was hitting around 28 mpg on a long run down to the South of France, mostly 80 mph plus and a bit of off-roading.

Since the one year service with about 9000 miles on the clock, which included a software upgrade, the car is amazingly fast, for a 2.7 tonne brick, but guzzles fuel at around 16 mpg.

Anyone else found this after the upgrade?

My TDV6 auto was doing 26 MPG before the enhancement and is now doing 23.4 MPG driving very gently - It is booked in to see what is going on. Some enhancement! Sad

Does seem to be a strange range of figs.
We have post enhancement & tc'd car, avge 20.3 mpg.
Wife does most of the driving, short trips are the norm.
The BMW 530A sport (petrol) Touring we used to have avgd 23-24 doing the same trips, I was expecting the Disco to be better than the bm, have to admit I am a litte disappointed with the figs.
Happy with everything else though.
Filled up today and managed to put in 83 ltrs of BP Ultimate unleaded at 97p a ltr OUCH!!!!!! Big Cry

Nick - is that OUCH as you should have put diesel in? If not, would have thought that 20mpg was good for a V8.

10 days average

only done 640 miles in the beast, but good mix of green lanes, long motorway drive 120 miles each way and town driving sees my average at 30.1 mpg

I am more than happy with that Very Happy

Thankfully it was a typo NOT a misfuel, however ....
At my garage there are only 2 pumps that have the ultimate diesel. First couple of times I went there I by chance went to the pumps that had the ultimate diesel, the third or so time I had to go to a different pump & very very nearly put in BP Ultimate unleaded as the logo etc was very similar and I was not expecting the pump not to have the Ultimate Diesel, bet this causes all sorts of problems.
I actually had wrong nozzel in my hand, however penetration had not been commenced........

Prompted by the 97p a litre for diesl I went and checked petrolprices.com for prices near me and - 88.9p seems best.

As an aside I followed another link off that site and read the Guardian Review of the 10 Most Tree-Huggy Cars you can buy

( see http://www.guardian.co.uk/cars/story/0,15383,1357788,00.html )

What I was amazed to learn was that you can switch the Toyota Pius to electric only - and it will run for precisely 1 mile only on its batteries Shocked Fat lot of good that is!

That Guardian selection does not rock my boat. It said a selection including sports cars. Where were they?

Before Enhancement care ful driving to work about 25miles had an average of 27.3 mpg. After the enhancement it went up to 30.6 for the same journey. Car went back for a compressor change. now all I get is about 24mpg. I am confused wondering what the comprtessor has to do with the fuel economy?

We are currently on 28mpg exactly with lots of short runs plus some queueing and a couple of 1000km long runs. This is with roof bars on and studded snow tyres. It has also been cold enough to run the webasto heater.

Post enhancement also. Our fuel consumption has decreased (got better) during the time we have had the D3. I'm really pleased with the consumption...
