My average MPG was around 28 until last 2 weeks when it plummeted to 25.6. Same routes same work but Tesco fuel. Winter diesel? Esso standard today and back up to normal range.

Fuel

I have noticed the same I have just had my software upgraded and I had shell fuel left in my tank about quarter full drove 17 miles home on M55 at 70 mph, the average fuel when I pulled off on to the slip road was 30.5 mpg.
I filled up yesterday at morrisons and its dropped to 25.5, it does make a difference on the quality of fuel you put in.
I first noticed this on a trip to Scotland when I had Asda fuel in it then I filled up with Shell diesel Extra and got better mpg.

flack Very Happy

Mine got a corrupted software file post enhancement and dropped the upgrade (back to magic carpet ride etc.) fuel economy went down as well. I was getting 11.5 on freeway runs at 120kmph Shocked
recently the ccolant sensor went sotware upgrade for suspension went but engine performance improved. Fuel economy went from 12.5 to 16-17 around town Confused it then settled back to 13.5 Confused Back to dealer on 20th.
maybe he has a software issue.

I'm not shocked at all about diesel. I've driven 1500 Km. this weekend, mostly highway, and found very, very reasonable figures, if not excellent for a vehicle the size and shape of ours...

Mine (auto) is actually spending 9 - 9'5 l./100 Km. cruising on the speed controller at 132 Km./h. (speed limit regulation in Spain) which translates to 31'39 - 29'73 mpg (british) cruising at 82 Mph (british).

I expected substantially worse figures for such a huge car.

Off-road consumption is something I will see, but I'm not really concerned.

I got 497 miles from just over 3/4 of a tank, pre-enhancement (London to Lochgilphead). Post-enhancement, I did about 620 miles on a whole tank (Perth to London and then some local journeys). Motorway MPG is definitely much better (10%+), but I would say around town it is about the same, probably because I am using the more spritely behaviour a bit too much.

Mentioned the low mpg to my, now old, dealer today and he said that he had never come across such a problem.

He had never come across the sinking seat problem either, forgivable if they were at the back of beyond but Guildford is hardly the boondocks.

My mpg seems to have dropped recently. Being a diesel "newbie" does winter diesel really make any difference?

MPG

Well 1000 miles in and I'm on an Avg of 30.1 MPG in my TDV6...

This has been round town, A-roads and two long runs on the M40 and A34. This evenings run was 90+ and I did drop to 28.9 !!

Mileage for my TDV6 was over 30 last month, but has now steadily dropped a little. Surprised

However, it is still really good I think, at around 28 mpg on mixed A roads and short to medium trips 2-20 miles. Mind you I am still driving with a light right foot, but its fun to boot it occasionally! Smile

Windage!

Windage seems, predictably, to have a big effect on mpg. A 15 mile trip south down the A3 to Guildford at 70 in a headwind gave 28 mpg (Q8 diesel).

Re-zero on departure and returning back up the A3 (again 70), now with a strong following wind, and including a refuel stop (BP ultimate) gave 40.5 mpg - Highest I have ever seen. Very Happy Sounds incredible, but the average (28+40)/2 gives 34, which is what it says in the book.

SO, no magic, but a strong suggestion that the "brick" is as poor aerodynamically as one might imagine! Helped I guess by the better fuel also.

I would say the better quality fuel had a bigger bearing on the mpg than wind effect.

Flack. Surprised

Can anyone explain how the computer calculates mpg?

I mean, is it a rolling average or is it cumulative? I presumed at first it reset when the trip zero'd at 1000 miles, as it seemed to do so when I manually reset the trip. Now I'm not so sure.

First couple of thousand miles I had it the mpg was quite variable but more recently, it varies between 22.5 & 22.8 mpg at most. I'm mostly doing short journeys, up to 10 miles, but doesn't seem to make much difference if I take it on a 300 mile motorway trip.

The computer works on an average across the period until it is re-set. Push and hold the left hand (indicator) stalk button for two seconds to reset all the info display - including average MPG. OTOH, The trip meter (below the mileometer) works independently and is reset from the button protruding from the perspex screen.
