Side steps...do they protect the doors????
Our 05 seems to be a "ding" magnet - (maybe because my wife is now using it more? )
We have a really nast "ding" in the near side front passeneger door that I was about to get fixed by "Dentmaster" - probably the size of a 50p piece and 2-3 mm deep. I went to look at it yesterday and noticed that we've (or more accuratley "she") now picked up yet another one on the SAME door (so glad I didnt get it repaired) - this one is straight up and down - probably 6 inches high and very clearly someone opening their door onto ours - HARD......
So questions for others with experience of the steps are - will the door steps, aside from aiding the wife and kids to climb into the car, act as a barrier to stop these sorts of "events"?? Have they reduced the incidence for you?
...and whats the cheapest I can expect to pay for a pair ?? (with the value of our 05 dropping at an inverse exponential rate - the steps might soon be worth more than the whole car!)

If I park in a small car park I leave the car jacked up in offroad mode, therefore other doors will hit the steps only.

It's all good when someone opens a front door but unfortunately makes all difference with a rear door because of its shape. and that is where most of the kids,grannys etc. exit from.Global Warming.... I'm luvvin it

I used to have steps and parking in off road height used to work pretty well.
I have since got rid of my steps (personal but didn't like the mini airplane shape with them) and now I make sure I park well away from eveybody else. If I have to park next to anyone I check to see if the neighbour looks like they have kids - if they do I move.
Just not worth the hassle and frankly people don't give to much of a **** about others these days - so stay out of thier way

As Shrinky says it's the back door that's the killer. I've actually sat parked up in the car and watched a bunch of kids slam their car door in to mine as they piled in the back. Fortunately it didn't do any damage, but their parents didn't give a damn. Plastic side strips are equally as useless when it comes to back doors, just look at the shape of the D3s back door - the point that would hit the car beside would be the corner at the top of the plastic wheel arch.
Park miles away, park strategically (eg. at the end of a row where there will only be a car on one side of you - and park it as far across the bay from that car as you can), or don't take it at all, is my solution.2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

i find it best to park over two spaces. Only do this in free supermarkets car parks but it works and no one has had the balls to say owt yet. If they cant make the damn spaces big enough for a car i dont see why i should get my car damaged. the other option is to keep it so covered in mud that no one dare park next to you for fear of being covered in the damn stuff should they brush against it Corrado Vr6

Park as close as possible with your passenger door near their passenger door so they have to get in from the other side. The front passenger has to wait till the car is out off the parking space.
