Single Vs Twin Turbo Performance

This might be a naïve question, but I've just changed from a 2013 HSE SDV6 to a 2016 Landmark. I'm told that both are 255bhp, but the Landmark doesn't feel as swift as the HSE.

The salesman told me that the Landmark has a single turbo instead of the twin turbos on the earlier car, but I don't know if that would mean slower acceleration.

I am not especially technical when it comes engines and things, so an idiot guide would be appreciated Confused

This is something I can’t figure out and it applies to every industry - business has to be too good if you cannot be bothered to learn the basics of the kit you’re trying to flog.

I think the mono turbo was only for introduction into the US.

Interesting. Most that have driven the final adblue equipped models say they feel quicker and smoother than the earlier 255bhp non adblue models. So something doesn't sound right there.

I was a sales manager for many years and sold a number of different products. The one thing that gets my goat is lack of product knowledge. This is usually backed up with lies and fantasy because they just don't have any answers for you. My staff were tested by me on new product and asked to point out the features and benefits in a monologue style presentation. I would do this with all new product by giving the sales team enough time to pull the product apart and delve into the nitty gritty. They were given documentation from the suppliers to help them to understand the ins and outs of the product too. I have been to a number of motor dealers in my time for all kinds of brands and I'm left speechless by their no nothing approach to selling. How can you show the customer why your products are so good if you don't know yourself? Why do independents seem to know more than main dealers? Main dealers work with just one brand. It all seems unforgivable to me. This is their job!
I went to a LR dealership once when the RRS was first updated in 2012 and none of the staff knew how the rear seats moved forward to allow access to the extra seats in the back. It took me two minutes of fiddling to find it. It was that apathy which lost them a sale at the time.
Impress me with your knowledge and I'm likely to spend my money, don't and I definitely won't.

Many years ago I was in the market for purchasing a Vauxhall Senator 3.0l. Actually a great car. The salesman told me I could have two sun roofs, one manual and one electric!!

What is also shocking is that prospective buyers tend to know more of the car, WHAT ARE VALID CONFIGURATIONS and how everything works than the seller. I’m sure there are great car salesmen somewhere it’s just that I’ve never met one Thumbs Up

Funny you should say that, Kajtzu, when I bought my Freelander 2 from a dealer in Reading I had to explain how rain-sensitive windscreen wipers worked...

Thanks for the answers everyone - think I have some more digging to do...

...and perhaps invest in some heavier boots for the loud pedal Laughing

I've owned two "Adblue" Landmarks, both notable faster than my previous D4's. No explanation as to why, but I'm guessing it's down to "mapping". Thumbs Up

Possibly more than just tinkering with the mapping. I think it may be more to do with the fact that the complete engine ECU (PCM) is actually different on the 2016 models.
