SkyGo Via Sat Nav Screen - D4 (12)

Does anybody know if there's away to watch what's on ur iPhone on my sat Nav screen.

I've bought a video in motion lead so I can watch a DVDs while on the move just wondered if anybody had got sky go or movies of there iPhones to play? I was hoping I'd be able to play through the usb lead in centre console.

Any ideas?

Interesting thought Dan, I'd think you'll need a video input to the screen , not just the USB , we use iPod outputs to projectors etc at work, so that should give you the feed, Apple only I think though Thumbs Up

I used the USB port and connected my iPhone to it and played the audio from Sky go but no picture. There's gotta be away around it?

Is there a video input on the back of the sat Nav monitor or do I need to buy one of those expensive boxes Censored

There will be an input, without the box you'd have to enter the diagnostic setup and select the input manually Thumbs Up

I suspect 3 coloured RCA type inputs on a 12, earlier 4's had a 6 pin socket Thumbs Up

Abit of topic but does anybody know if there's a gizmo to connect a 12v cooler box to the tow bar electrics to save having the boot open while camping?

If you have white socket, it has both a 12v live and a fridge live for caravanning, the tow socket charger plugs Martin sells in the shop will provide 12v Thumbs Up

I think the problem lies with the app. I don't think SkyGo allows video output.

Somerset Bumpkin is right, way back in the day with a 3GS I had to jailbreak the iphone to get a video out from sky go.

For the iPhonists, can you mirror the iphone screen to an airport? in which case plugging the airport output into the GVIF input may work?

Dan, Did you find out if there is the 3 Phone (RCA) adapters on the back of the screen?

Because i am thinking of this.

It's not sky go but I'm running now tv through the head unit

I had a similar challenge
I've now got Apple TV running through my head unit as it was the easiest way I could think of to use google maps
A by product to this is I now also have now tv and Netflix on my head unit
I upgraded the Apple TV to the 4th gen as it connects audio via Bluetooth
It is connected via the navtv reverse camera into the screen and I have a video in motion so it stays on whilst on the move

That's very clever. I assume you can also play audio such as Spotify over Bluetooth using airplay? Nice upgrade for D4s that can't play music over Bluetooth.

Can you outline exactly how you did it as well. What parts are required etc. How did you power the Apple TV? Couldn't you use a 3rd gen? They are a lot cheaper than the 4.

Nice job Thumbs Up

Ok so parts used
Navtv unit from Nav.tv
REV-EVO16 £249
Video in motion from xcarlink
SKU148106 £99
Standard power converter 12v to 240v
HDMI to rgb convertor £20 amazon
Apple TV 4th gen £139

The two video modules run straight into the screen
Oem screen wiring into navtv unit>video in motion>screen
Navtv unit into reverse parking cable (purple) oem parking lead into unit
New video input run down left hand side of centre console

I originally used the Apple TV 3rd gen and wired the video input into the upper glove box
The red and white stereo leads then plugged into the aux in but the sound quality isn't great
It picks up a lot of cross talk and the buzz through the speakers whilst livable really wound me up.
ATV 4th gen connects via Bluetooth to the head unit so the sound quality is as good as if you were using your phone
(The phone is still connected via Bluetooth for the phone and takes over if a call comes in.

The power convertor, hdmi convertor is all fixed under the passenger seat powered by the rear 12v socket
Apple TV is mounted between centre console and passenger seat with double sided Velcro
(The remote needs line of sight so my original idea of chucking everything beneath the 2nd row seats didn't work unless you reach down and point the apple flicker under the seat)

I then had to set up ATV in the house
Once it's done all it's updates I had to change the resolution to rgb high
If you don't do this before you put it in the car it won't display

The hdmi convertor is powered via 5v USB, this cleans up the image a little and sends a hdcp signal back to ATV (things like Netflix don't like the signal being converted)

Everything is connected to my in car wifi dongle for mostly constant 4g
Hope that helps
