mines the same, difficult to close when all other doors and windows are closed. However if you open another window or door it seems to shut perfect 1st time, wonder if its the air pressure?
Give it a try.

Ps Perfect solution trade it in and get a Ranger Rover Sport. Click handle tailgate opens on its own, press button self closing. May only cost 20 grand to trade up

Interesting - the MY14 docs definitely don't have it. So the gig question is - does this actually work on the MY16 cars AND if so, can it be retrofitted Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond

Is it a "certain markets only" feature?

Ermmmm.... are you guys trying to 'push' against the soft close mechanism? Something like pushing against the soffits on a soft close cupboard door... Dave

got to say the tailgate bugs me on my d4 the d3 one was fine ( until if broke of course ) but unless you close with a firm even push mine bounces off the latch and often i get a tailgate open message
the latches generally seem poor all round ,ive got keyless entry but the door handle operation particularly drivers which gets most use seems harsh to the touch and feels as tho it jumps off the catch rather than a nice smooth release .
dosent feel the quality youd expect from a high end vehicle IMO

Skynet .... My discovery ... and every body else's UK spec. (or any other spec it appears) does NOT have a LR factory/dealer fitted soft close mechanism on the tailgate.....according to the LR dealer. It would be very interesting if someone can prove different .... as I said the LR dealer was not even aware the manual said it has it when it hasn't ..... ...??2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Just had a look on topix and as others have stated if you compare the UK 2015 manual to the UK 2016 edition this does indeed look like a "new" feature but sounds like its either pants or missing from the builds.

Hmmm.... all rather odd ..... strangely there is an 'addendum' loose page explaining what variations the DEF filler cap might look like ..... and I would have thought there would have been another explaining the car may not have the 'soft close' tailgate.... but no .... nothing .... just what it says in the manual.
Anyway - whatever - it hasn't got it, but at least the dealer 'fiddled' about today with it to make it close a bit easier ..... 'its all just a bit 'tight' and will close even easier with use' I'm told
Also replaced the 'screwed' down front eyelet cover (which now hangs a bit loose of course) ..... and had a look at the 'kinked' inside drivers door trim - that funny 'felty' bit - will have to order a replacement... and filled in the blank 'on line service book' - sort of.... I won't go there .... but at least some of its now been filled in!....
Despite all this nonsense ..... and having had the 'discovery sport' for a day (which I'm so glad I didn't go for) .... despite my Disco being a bit 1980's, IMO, washers on the bonnet, sticky up headlamp washers etc etc... I won't go on ..... I can't quite put my finger on it...... but I LOVE IT - just a dream to drive... amazing car and I can't stop going outside to look at it - just a classic wonderful shape!! Maybe I'll change my mind when/if the fault codes start...... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Small update on this. I figured out yesterday that a big part of the remaining randomness on my upper tailgate is actually due to the LOWER tailgate not always latching properly on the RHS.
If i casually close the lower tailgate (& it does not latch fully) then the upper tailgate wont close reliably. It will close though with a firm shove.
If I make sure the lower tailgate is properly clicked home - which requires a solid push - then the upper tailgate closes virtually 100% of the time.
I am getting the tailgate handle cover fixed tomorrow so I'll ask them to adjust the lower gate at well. Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond

recently acquired a D4 and also wondering why I have to *slam* the top tailgate to make it close.
Will ask the stealer to look at it when it goes in next week for lower control arms, I do not see this as 'normal'.--
