Same when I bought my D4. had to be adjusted by dealer, lower tailgate closing causec the upper to need to be slammed.
So they still have a problem?

odd, seeing that the lower tailgate closes perfectly every time, with hardly any force required.

for me it took a while to figure out that the lower tailgate was the culprit. It did appear to close properly but actually one side was not always latching fully. You could only really tell that if you gave the lower gate a real tug when it was closed and then you'd feel a small amount of movement on one side.

if the lower gate isn't 100% closed then upper gate will need a firm push to get it closed, or several slams.

LR adjusted my lower gate at they both now close faultlessly Thumbs Up

Have to slam my new MY16 but I can't say its any worse than my 2007 D3. Makes me wince almost every time.

Soft close would have been a great addition, they obviously think so too, enough to wet the appetite in the handbook!

Don't you hate reading handbooks that describe wonderful features that are not present or available on your car Evil or Very Mad , just like adaptive cruise which is apparently only of interest if you have a petrol version!

I have to slam my tailgate.

I have a creak coming from the rear I thought it may be suspension or brake calliper. Now thinking tailgate Question it's going in to the Land Rover hospital on Friday for investigation.

that's about the only thing I do not like about the D4, I much prefer the setup from the Disco2.

A side-opening door also means you can have the spare on the door, not in that stupid place under the car... Rolling Eyes

Mine was like this - requiring a double hands-on slam - when new. Gradually as the rubbers bedded down it closed with one hand on. Now after 18 months it has just started closing with a hands off slam.

No adjustments made, just part of the running in process.

Mines been terrible since I picked it 2 months ago, previous ones never as bad as this so its booked in to have it adjusted. Last few days I've started really shutting the lower tailgate firmer and the top definitely seems to shut better but its still hit and miss. Infuriating when we are all strapped in ready to set off and I look down to see the flaming red warning light and "tailgate open" message Evil or Very Mad

Try this it may work on D4 mine is a D3 but think not much different Thumbs Up

I have had a problem with the top rear hatch not shutting properly need a FIRM push! The lower part had a bit of movement when shut if pushed. I removed the cover from the pins which it catches on marked where it was then slackened of the two 8mm bolts need 13mm socket the top bolt slackened more than bottom so it pivots moved top about 1mm towards front of the car. Tighten both bolts then repeat on the other side. Leave covers off then try closing both to see if better adjust if necessary. Thumbs Up

Hoping this makes sense please let me know if not. I am known for writing things only I understand Rolling with laughter

Still can't add pictures sorry gave up trying Big Cry

Interesting - the MY14 docs definitely don't have it. So the gig question is - does this actually work on the MY16 cars AND if so, can it be retrofitted Thumbs Up

Not mentioned in MY16 manual.
always shut mine by pushing on handle, told this by dealers.

2014 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 XXV LE Auto Causeway GreyDiscovery 4

as said above the correct alignment of the lower section is the real cause when you close the lower section try pushing on both sides on the outside edges near the catches if you feel and sometimes hear it click then thats your real cause and needs adjustment if this isnt right your chasing your tail.

also slamming dosent help the upper section as the upper bounces back when you do this just close firmly and hold the top section as you close it more of a firm held push then a slam and this stops the bounce and it will latch first time evry time ive had 3 discos and they varied but essentially all suffered in one way or another ,hope this helps Thumbs Up
