| Have to 'slam' rear tailgate....Is this normal? |

Is it usual to have to really slam the rear tailgate (top bit) .... it takes me 3 / 4 or more attempts to shut it!!  The car is brand new... does it take time to 'ease up' as it were?
I'm concerned, once I get incident cameras fitted tomorrow (all being well  ) this slamming will upset the camera or even cause it to drop off!! 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

I have a similar issue and no I don't think that it is normal when compared to my old D3 which closed easily without any drama.
LR have adjusted mine for me recently and it is tonnes better. The kids still struggle with it a bit so it will be looked at again.
Be careful though, I started closing mine with my hand on the outside of the tailgate handle and giving it a firm push. Works well but my painted cover came lose  and LR are about to replace it. Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond

So this 'soft closing' feature in the owners handbook is nonsense .... do not slam tailgate it says... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

No idea .... doesn't work or can't make it soft close on my MY16HSE. Manual just says.. 'Closing the tailgate: as the tailgate reaches its lowest position, it will automatically 'soft close' to the fully closed position. Do not slam the tailgate'. No other instructions or directions .... page 9 of owners manual printed in 2015 .... maybe its a US export thingy...  2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

I can't see any real difference with the boot compared to the D3. Don't see any reason why it should be any worse unless quality control has gotten worse Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond

Mine's an MY09 D3. LR seem to think you'll only ever shut the tailgate while standing square behind it with both hands free. If you use one hand on one side, I find it rarely shuts first time. Mind you, the passenger doors are temperamental, too  Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

I know what you mean. my d3 would not always close, maybe only closed first time 9/10 or 8/10 times when closed 1 handed . My d4 would only close 1/10 times unless you used both hands, one on the handle and one on paintwork on the right of the tailgate.
After LR fiddled with it, I can now close it maybe 6/10 times. Better but still not great.
My point here is that adjustments can help so don't settle for it. Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond

My D3 shut first time almost all the time. the D4 only shuts if you keep hold of it, if you slam it or drop it then it bounces off the latch and you have to try again. I asked dealers to look at it at first service and they fiddled with it but its never been right and to be honest I've just got used to it. Reading this thread just reminded how I've put up with it for 50k miles! will be interested to see if my new one does the same in September, at £65k I'm just making an additional mental note not to accept such a feature! along with Cr@p camera quality, loose tow cover, wrong wheels etc etc!

I think I'll ask the incident camera fitters not to bother with the rear one ..... at least ask him to test shutting the rear door first to see if the camera could cope ..... if not..... not to bother with it... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black
