Small Mod - Smoked taillights
The bright red clusters on the back were never to my likings. To much contrast to the Java Black. So after looking as RR38Hans his taillight job I decided to take the plunge. Bought Motip Backlight Spray mat paint, cut myself 4 ovals of 16x12cm and started spraying. Just a couple of layers to take the shining red of.
Here are the resuls with courtesy to RR38Hans

Would look even better with a DISCO3.CO.UK sticker in the rear window I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

IMHO correct way to tone down the red rear lights is with guards
Works well even with the new blingy ones - Ken has a guarded set on his new Stornaway D3Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Its not a Brit plate - font's wrong and its impossible (currently) to end a 7 digit Brit plate with two letters and two numbersSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

hi
whats the reason/point of leaving ovals un sprayed if your only putting on a couple of layers
full coverage would look much better and not make any real difference to the light output
imho

IMHO it simply looks more refined. Has nothing to do with light output. The 2 ovals make a nice contrast in otherwise just a dark surface. Or like RR38Hans says "it looks less gangsta".
Just as you don't want to much shiny areas you also don't want to much black/dark areas. The pictures don't really do it just, the smoked area is in real much darker.
In the end it remains a question personal preference.
