Smart Key not found error

Hi Guys

Ive previously asked this on the Australian forum but was unable to get it resolved, hoping someone here might know the solution.

Car is a 2011 2.7 D4

From time to time (no specific pattern Ive noticed) when using the car I will get an error message saying the smart key cannot be found - however the key is there and I have tried replacing the batteries twice.

It happens with either key FOB so doesnt appear related to the specific key.

Unlike every other post Ive read like this my error never prevents me starting it. At worst if the error is there I just have to lock the car, unlock it again then hit start.

Often the message pops up when I stop at a shop for instance and my partner gets out of the car and as she closes the passenger door it pops up.

The problem is only slightly annoying because it doesnt stop me doing anything but it has been going for nearly a year now and I'm tired of seeing the red error light as I drive around.

any suggestions would be great!!

Responding after quite a while! Sorry.
Do you keep the keys near your mobile phone (in the same pocket) ? I’ve was warned it could cause problems when I bought mine.
Cheers

Just to close this one out, I found the problem.

A year ago, the same time the problem began I bought an iPhone cradle, it plugs into the cigarette lighter and then uses QI wireless charging for my phone.

Long story short if you read up about wireless phone chargers the signal it sends your phone is much stronger than that of a smart key and effectively is blocking the signal for the keys to the car.

I removed the cradle and my problem went away.

The simplest solution which drove me nuts for a year. Hopefully this helps someone else find the interference

I have a wireless phone charger mounted on the vent between the steering wheel and the nav screen and have no issues. Best charger/cradle ive ever fitted and only £8 off amazon IIRC

(ironically wireless phone chargers still need a wire plugged into a power source Laughing )
