Snork^H^H^H^H Raised air intake

I've done some searching and I can't find what I'm looking for - although there are a few clues.

I have a V8, so the safari snorkel is not an option.

I appreciate the benefits of dust reduction - living in Queensland it is a bit of an issue, but I don't follow too close so it's not a huge concern.

I do have to cross the occasional river and am worried I'll find a hole and end up deeper than I expected. A snorkel sounds like suitable insurance.

Just where are the holes in the G4 snorkel? I've seen photo from nwoods showing some gaffer tape on the outside sealing a hole. If there somewhere else? I read about a perforated tube in a search which sounds alarming.

Also, I read that the snorkel may or may not need to be removed to allow the bonnet to open fully. Which is correct?

Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve,

Just been out and had a look at my G4.

Don't know who made the snorkel as it is Land Rover branded, but the bonnet opens fully, no problem.

Don't know what you mean about holes. Can you elaborate?

Will try and find out who made the snorkel.

I think I have read that the LR raised air intake is made by Mantec.
I also seem to recall that there is a tube from the side air intake to some airbox in the engine bay that has drain holes to get rid of water that made it into the air intake...

Thanks for the info on the bonnet - I can't remember where I read that one.

One mention of the perforations is here, but I have read others, perhaps on different forums.

Thanks, not sure how I managed not to read that one...

Should I be siliconeing the perforations? Only the top ones (to allow water to drain out). Not sealing them?

Or not bothering with the snorkel as it leaks like a sieve?

Cheers, Steve
