I kinda like the looks of "...what the is that scruffy, long haired b d earning to be able to afford to fill up that big hunking thing".

Ah but depreciation on a D3 will catch up when the Market returns to "normal".

I hear where you are coming from, trouble is I traded my d3 with almost no depreciation over two years for a full spec BMW with 5 years servicing thrown in and road tax for less than a tank of D3 diesel. My yearly running costs have just dropped by £2000.
I loved my d3 but it is just a commodity......give it a couple of years and I may buy another.........sad thing is how many D3's are coming up for sale on here...

Was good to meet you the other day Jim hope you come back to the fold in the future
In terms of fuel economy the 320d is in a league of its own. The 58.9mpg figure they quote isn't pulled out of the air (although you'll have to have a light foot to achieve it - it is possible). Ours never dips below 40mpg in town and on long journeys the fuel economy steps up comfortably in to the 50s. The ride quality is absolutely fine (it's a road-biased machine remember!) and the handling, steering, road-manners etc. are all superb. The quality is top notch, it's a very classy BMW all round.
Enjoy!!

Sensible car to buy. Couldn't ever get rid of the D3 though, it's too good a car especially in bad weather.

Looks like I have bucked the trend, brand new to the forum, and just sold an A4 Quattro S-line special edition with all the toys, for a D3 Commercial, and I have to say, I don't miss the Audi

I'm getting really worried......Ive just gone the "other" way !
Sold a mint '57 plate 520d Touring (45mpg)....never missed a beat/had anything replaced, and bought a late '05 Disco.......(24ish mpg) that has so far needed.....new front diff, new arb bushes and 4 new tyres....and all to get me out the drive during the 1/2 hour per year that it snows !!!
What have I done ......
Have to say,the kids and the missus much prefer the LR and,in my mind anyway I'm convinced it makes me look much more rugged and manly,so maybe the cost of diesel isn't the only consideration when buying a car ? "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
Locking rear E-diff

D4 Firenze my2012 HSE
D3 Java 2005 SE manual (sold, sadly, thanks for the memories)
1966 '88 Series 2a....still starts in the morning better than I do...
