How about a photo of one that’s been done properly for us lesser mortals It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

This is roughly where the tab should be, its the only one I can find at the moment. Just look at the square cut out, it should line up with a notch on the alloy part of the tensioner.

The belt tensioner is 180 out, they have tensioned it clockwise instead of anti clockwise, it was like a piano string even after all this time, far to tight.
Belts last done by a LR Main Dealer

And everyone gets excited about a full main dealer service history
This is why I use an Indy on mine who actually cares

Totally agree, I picked my D3 because it went to a reputable indie after 60k, certainly my local
Main dealers are not the best, my brother once had his D2 serviced by them. When he got back to the office I noticed a trail of oil down the driveway, they had not tightened the sump plug and it had slowly leaked all the new oil.
Never went there again.David

How difficult is this job for someone useful with spanner’s but with zero knowledge of engines and their goings on?!

I just did mine, not having ever done a D3 before, it took 4 days just pottering away at home. But half of the time was making a tool for the fan, getting some torx sockets for the crank, and machining the crappy locking tool to fit the flywheel.
The back one is like working through a letterbox, I was amazed the cover came out that gap

I love how you read the Haynes and the guides online, it simply states the cover comes out of this gap, you look at it, and can't even comprehend it.
